This should be the slogan for this off-season.One man's trash is another's treasure..

now explain the reason for giving away a 2nd to move a guy thats a 4-5-6 dman ? nobodys shocked he was moved , the shock is about why it cost a second for a player that should have brought back a 2nd . a player on a good contract thats a strong power skater who doesnt get pushed around that also has a wicked shot . the guys a legit #4/#5 dmanNot surprising that Detroit moved him. He was being propped up pretty heavily by Seider when they were paired together, which is why when he played away from Seider, Seider's numbers didn't change but Walman's got worse. Good offensive D-man...but realistically a 4-5-6 defenseman on a playoff team and that might even be a stretch because his value is as a PP shooter and most playoff teams don't need that.
On top of that, if Albert Johansson makes the team, he comes much cheaper for similar offensive upside and much more solid defensive work. That and Edvinsson will most likely make the team out of camp, and he has much higher offensive upside than Walman. So Walman would eventually lose his place on the team and that would mean his value is much less to Detroit. It's kind of a freebie 2nd rounder, with the earlier trade, so it's not really a huge asset issue since Yzerman upgraded the forward prospect pool with a surplus defensive prospect.
Weird trade, I've always liked Walman.
At least it's a late 2nd?
Have you ever seen future considerations like that? The 14th to 15th swap would happen without future considerations. This just reads like someone not wanting to accept the reality that the future considerations are going to amount to nothing.to even this up sjs claims holl of waivers then at draft flip detroit the 14th for detroits 15th
Surely they could have put him through waivers to see if anyone would take him for free right? This is always an interesting take. Like do people think they didn't try moving his $3.4 million for the next two years, without giving up the pick?
The salary. Almost 3.5M of cap hit. It's what would have prevented him from being claimed on waivers. If he was a top 4 dman that just needed to be moved on, Yzerman would have made a hockey trade or waived him and someone would have claimed him. But it's clear, from the trade, that the GM's that Yzerman spoke to didn't think he was worth the cap hit for what he brings. And so in order to get him off the cap, he moved Gibson for a F prospect and a 2nd, and then sent the 2nd with Walman.now explain the reason for giving away a 2nd to move a guy thats a 4-5-6 dman ? nobodys shocked he was moved , the shock is about why it cost a second for a player that should have brought back a 2nd . a player on a good contract thats a strong power skater who doesnt get pushed around that also has a wicked shot . the guys a legit #4/#5 dman
Damn, RIP...He had a great year in 22-23’ but literally fell off a cliff this past season
Yes. The idiot who did the gritty in meaningless games. Danced his way off the teamthis the dude that does the gritty?
Isn't he a very solid, defensively sound, top 4 defender? Making 3.5?
Even if the Wings are cooking something up and needed to clear him out, there wasn't a single team willing to take him on without needing a sweetner?
This is very odd to me.
I didn’t realize this was such a big deal for so many people.Yes. The idiot who did the gritty in meaningless games. Danced his way off the team
