It's really hard to rehab a high ankle sprain / play thru it in the middle of the season. he got hurt and just couldn't find his grove playing at 70%. really didn't want to trade him but it's okay ! wish him the best

I think kesselring lights it up in san jose im expecting 40 points big physical RH d-man. I hope they play him pp1 guy has a cannon !

I would have liked this for the Pens, but I get the impression they want to leave a spot open for Brunicke, and aren't ready to cut Letang loose yet.

A young RHD just to move up 7 spots in the draft? I don't love it.

I feel bad for Buffalo. They finally have a good team, but they're stuck with a crappy GM. Kek sucks.

This is a nice buy low trade for GMMG. Sabres obviously didn't need him, so moving up 7 spots isn't terrible, but you have to think that another team in the league could have beaten that? A mid 20s large mobile RHD and RFA who had a bad injured year is a prime rebound candidate and should have at least a few teams offering more than that I would have thought.

What? 😂
You do realize Buffalo needs to free up cap space to both re-sign their rfa’s and add. The Sabres also have a top 4 that are top 5 in the league, Dahlin, Samuelsson, Power and Byram, with only Byram not signed long term with Jarmo stating getting him re-signed long term is top priority.

Where was Kesselring to fit in there? It was a wise move by Jarmo, hardly a bad GM. And Sabres fans are more versed than any other fan base in what a bad GM looks like imho.

He's not really young, he'll turn 27 in January and has never played in a top 4 role, also had a bunch of injuries.

2nd round value seems about the cost to move up. I just don't get it before knowing who is there at 20OA.
They should have an idea how they think the draft will go. If there is someone they think will go in the 17-22 range then you move up. They still have time to trade the 20th+ to move up farther if they think they need to.
Habs moved up to 21 before the draft because I believe they knew Toronto liked Hage. They probably didn't think that would be enough but they couldn't make another deal.

Was Kesselrin not playing in the playoffs because he was hurt or he was ass?
A bit from column A, a bit from column B. He was hurt to start the season. Then was OBVIOUSLY playing too soon, didn't play well and hurt himself again. Again, he came back too soon in an effort to prove himself. That lead to him landing squarely in Lindy's doghouse as Kess wasn't playing the way Lindy wanted him to play.....meanwhile Kess is out there doing everything he can to show that he can keep up with our top 4 guys, instead of playing how Lindy wanted.

Him being hurt lead to him playing like ass....which lead him to the press box.

I don't think that is 100% true. He was in the doghouse too.

Because he played poorly in his last couple of opportunities. He got in there on his own with help from being injured and even Fairburn talked about how he was pressing to do more than what they wanted. But he had two shifts over a minute each in that game against the Bruins that were both on him doing the wrong thing when he already had not been doing what Ruff wanted. 1:44 and in the blender was more of what he'd had struggled with earlier.

Draft experts, I was under the impression picks 15-40ish were absolute meyhem and could be completely unpredictable. Is there expected to be a large drop off or tier break somewhere between 20 and 27?

Otherwise it seems like giving up an asset for a complete gamble, not knowing someone you love on your personal board is even available and worth the trade up to 20.

Some of the public space publications have a drop at around 20. HP has 19 Grade A's in their guide and EP has 30. *shrug* There was a report about a player who seems to be mocked out in the 18-22 range being a favorite of theirs (Morozov) so we'll have to see.
