Startling move for Buffalo. What would that make Kesselring's value straight-up? A second? Jeez, this is so much better for SJ than paying any of the free agent RHDs 8 figures or close to it. Fantastic trade for the Sharks

Tbh I have a feeling some of these RFA defensemen get stupid contracts too. Kesselring may have been asking for like $4+ million on an extension which Buffalo simply couldn't justify doing.

It's the same reason Spence is rumored to be available, Ottawa doesn't want to pay him what he's going to cost.

Kesselring was a healthy scratch for Buffalo, now they are set up a bit better for draft?

Ok, not bad. Makes sense for SJ and Buffalo gets to move up for a guy who just didn't work out.

I think you could be right, but still. Kesselring for $4ish or Spence for $5ish AAV sounds a hell of a lot better than 2 years of John Carlson for anything close to $10 mil. And I like John Carlson!

Yeah I was gonna say, Kesselring felt like his value was a 2nd and he was basically traded for that value. Feels pretty fair to me.

If I were in Buffalo's spot, I might have preferred the 2nd over just trading up 7 spots though.
For the season he had, I don’t think so. But if you believe in the player, the Sharks don’t have any veteran defensemen signed
