0 goals by Toffoli, Lucic, and Gaborik. Schenn had more goals and points than Doughty. Lewis was tied with Kopitar and Carter in goals. 2 goals from wingers. 7 ES goals in 5 games for the CF% all-star team. Quick's worst playoff performance since his first series in 2010. You really couldn't have written a worse script for the Kings.

If they could've played the way they did in the 3rd period of Game 4, and the 2nd half of the 2nd period in Game 5, the Kings might've had a chance. Where that version was for the majority of the series, and why it only showed up when they were down multiple goals, only the team knows. Too many one-off's up and down the roster. Brown had his one moment, but did little else with his ice time.

Who would've thought that the Kings would've been at their best in the month of December? Of all the teams, in all the months. 5-10-1 after clinching a playoff spot.

A nice bookend to the season. Lose the first 3 games at home, lose the last 3 games at home. All to division opponents. Including 4 losses to the Sharks, by a combined score of 17-8. Overall in the 6 games, outscored 24-9.

The Kings game so to speak showing up only happened once they were behind due to the Sharks backing off a bit and guarding against speed through the neutral zone. The strategy however was disastrous for the Sharks though as the Kings then were able to freely break out of their own zone, and then apply some forechecking pressure in the other end. When the game slowed down and became passsive, the Kings were the better team. But every time the Kings managed to tie the game, the Sharks abandoned the passive game and started coming after the Kings D again, and bringing speed and shooting guys into the zone. The slow pokes could never handle it, and SJ would scramble and just take the lead again. There were games near the end of the season that had this same feeling and flow, the Winnipeg game comes to mind. The bottom line is that once the other team let the dogs loose so to speak and go after the Kings D, all hell broke loose. What happened is all pretty simple to me!!!!! Imo

A'ight, question time.

I know it's only one round but based on how the Sharks played this series, how do you think those guys would fare against the 2014 Kings?

I think the Kings would have won pretty easily. That Kings team once they woke up in round 1 was pretty special. They beat two extremely tough teams in Anaheim and Chicago in grueling series, winning huge games on the road.

Defense consisted of Doughty, Muzzin, Mitchell, Voynov, Martinez, Regehr. I mean let that sink in, just how awesome that defense was, and when RR got hurt they had Matt Greene as the #7, that is pretty sick.

To be honest, I rank that 2014 Kings team second only to 2010 Chicago as far as most talented rosters the last ten years.

.... I'm still just a bit annoyed that the 2015 team misses the playoffs with 95 points (with the Jets and Flames both making it and being easily the worst two teams in a decade to do so in the WC) that this year the Wild rolled in with 87.

Yeah, don't think it would've even been close even if San Jose had a healthy Vlasic for the whole series. The Sharks preyed on the Kings defensemen who couldn't move the puck. You go from Doughty-Muzzin in 2016 to Doughty-Muzzin-Martinez-Voynov. Mitchell was no slouch with the puck either. If Kopitar played the same way, that's a point per game. Kings would've rolled them in 5 games, 6 games tops.

This^^^^ is what people/kings fans seem to overlook, our defensive corps were compromised with the losses of Voynov, Mitchell, Scuderi, Regher.......At the moment we have 3 stout defensemen, one of which is being is being burned out in Doughty who cannot and should not be playing 30+ minutes but Sutter has no choice and DD struggled do to fatigue.. I wouldn't mind a guy like Kris Russell who blocks a ton of shots and is decent moving the puck...

Doughty - Muzzin

Martinez - Russell

McNabb - Scuderi

Even with this we are not on par with our championship teams and thats what we need to get back to....

The pipe dream right now is somehow getting Ryan Suter to come to LA and then throwing him out on the ice with Doughty.

Kris russell should never be slotted above 7th on a depth chart. At best. He is a brutal defenseman. Cant move puck, cant win battles, poor skater, poor positioning His only skill is diving in front of pucks cause he cant break them out at all. Kings would be way better off with gravel or forbort than tieing a massive anchor to any of their d.
