SJS 6 : LAK 3 - Uh-Oh, we're eliminated

This ****ing elimination started when we choked the division away. The Preds were the more favorable matchup for us. Even if the Preds would beat us, I could still handle a loss to them better than a loss to SJ. This is gonna sting for a while. But, but, the Kings are always built for the playoffs! This was reality check for the crowd that likes to dismiss regular season success and assume we can just turn beast mode in the playoffs.

In this series the fact of how the team was or wasn't built really became immaterial. Going into this series they had played the Kings 14 playoff games in a row going home in the end on both occasions. They had a lot more to play for really and it showed.

If you really want to bark up that tree, I'll remind you that there's a bigger sample size of that being the case than not. Though I don't recall many suggesting that anyway this year, so your point is a shot at an imaginary group of fans who pretended everything was fine when really the overwhelming majority of the board knew our defense especially was an issue. I think others were simply cautiously optimistic while realizing our flaws and hoping there was another gear to reach.
 
0 goals by Toffoli, Lucic, and Gaborik. Schenn had more goals and points than Doughty. Lewis was tied with Kopitar and Carter in goals. 2 goals from wingers. 7 ES goals in 5 games for the CF% all-star team. Quick's worst playoff performance since his first series in 2010. You really couldn't have written a worse script for the Kings.

If they could've played the way they did in the 3rd period of Game 4, and the 2nd half of the 2nd period in Game 5, the Kings might've had a chance. Where that version was for the majority of the series, and why it only showed up when they were down multiple goals, only the team knows. Too many one-off's up and down the roster. Brown had his one moment, but did little else with his ice time.

Who would've thought that the Kings would've been at their best in the month of December? Of all the teams, in all the months. 5-10-1 after clinching a playoff spot.

A nice bookend to the season. Lose the first 3 games at home, lose the last 3 games at home. All to division opponents. Including 4 losses to the Sharks, by a combined score of 17-8. Overall in the 6 games, outscored 24-9.

Summed up nicely, hard too look at but sometimes no matter what the truth just hurts.

I will give Gabby a bit of a pass as he was no where near game speed/shape after the injury but I honestly think Lucic played his way off the team.
 
Hey guys, Sharks fan coming in peace.

I congratulated you guys after the reverse sweep and I'm here to say thanks for being classy and respectful during the back and forth of this series. You could have easily hung 2014 over our heads but I found you guys to be reasonable and objective towards both teams on the main board threads.

For us this win means so much more because of the embarrassment of 2014. The Kings are a model org and the respect I have for them is why I wanted to see the Sharks beat them so bad. It's a great rivalry and you can imagine the relief we feel after this win.

The Kings have a great core but a guy like Voynov won't get replaced out of thin air. Some off season wizardy from Dean should have you guys rebound back real soon. Hope we keep having some good battles but maybe the Sharks can try to be back with a cup ring next time to make the affair not so one sided!

Thanks! Also wanted to say the atmosphere at Staples is insane from what I can tell. The fans are loud and jeering. Very intimidating effect which is what you want. Great organ player too.

The organist's name is Dieter Ruehle, and he's the best in the business! Thanks for the kind words about our organization. This organization is top notch, like you said. Dean Lombardi has made it so.
