Is this the record that can’t be broken? Combine the limited number of 10 or more goals in a game events with power play specialists and with teams fully utilizing 3 lines and often rolling four lines, will Sittler’s single-game mark stand another 46 years?

With the current hockey culture it would be hard (Therrien did not played Crosby after his 6th points early in the third in 2006, did not reach 19 minutes that night), but Alfredsson scored 7 in 2008.

Yes now people would not put their big powerplay in a 13-3 blow out, but if both teams scores a lot.... could happen.

Most consecutive game played for a goaltender (502), the Gretzky record of the type most art ross-hart, etc... seem safers than a single game event.

And a Patrick Roy with removing goaltender type of coach with a different culture about trying to score in a blow out could happen, like a Dan Campbell (football has an excuse of impossible to really practice and not a lot of minutes to do it in real game) at any time.

So is scoring getting really high in the future.

It's not inconceivable to me that you could combine a very high-scoring game (such that someone is on 6-7 points with 10 minutes left in the third) with the trend towards pulling the goalie earlier and earlier and continuing to pull even when the deficit is 2+ goals into a player hitting 10 points with 3 or 4 being empty net.

I think that if Sam Gagner could tally 8 in 2011-12, someone with a career high of more than 50 points in a season should be able to have a 10 point night in this higher scoring environment.

Rarely before, something was so well demonstrated.

If Sam Gagner can make 80% of it, it is breakable.

Gretzky and Lemieux didn’t do it during the highest scoring era in history, so it’s extremely difficult but not impossible. The most they got was 8. I’d bet I’ll never see it happen again. The weirdest thing is, Sittler did it against a really good team. It wasn’t against one of those crappy 70’s expansion team. Sure it was a career AHLer in net, but that was a strong defensive team.

Glen Halls 502 consecutive games (damned near impossible)
Gretzky’s career assist mark
Gretzky’s career point mark
Gretzky’s one season assist mark (second place is 30 behind. Best non Gretzky mark is 50 behind)

Has for the never again, I feel many of us had that feeling about a 150 pts seasons not so long ago or a 70 goal season.

Scoring went from 2.65 goal a night in 2013, to 3.15 in 2023, only 10 years difference.

A similar jump from 2023 to 2033 and we are back to 3.75 goal a night hockey like in 88-89 or 92-93... and who knows what can happen...

And there is absolutely no reason that 2033 hockey scoring would not be that high, scoring is almost a decision the league can take by tweaking the rules, goaltending, what are penalties, going back to full 2 minutes PP after a goal, last 5 minutes of the third period being 4v4 hockey...

Lebron James scored 42 pts -17 rebound last night, has an over 40 years old big really tall player with the most minutes played in the league history, that type of longevity with people spending 1 million a year on their body, steam cell treatments, CRISPR gene editing, the next Gordie Howe in longevity could become common.

The NHL won't release the game tape, so it's possible 10 points isn't even really accurate (and therefore can't be broken)

Maybe if an EBUG plays a team besides the Maple Leafs it could be broken

Amazing record, and I love that it's not one owned by a Gretzky or Lemieux.

Unbreakable? Not so much. Super unlikely maybe, but anyone can have a fluke great game. If someone scored 11 points in a game this season, it wouldn't even have to be a McDavid or Mackinnon or Drai...someone completely unexpected could do it.
