Boston Globe Sitting Down With Cam Neely

In their defense,In late February or early March it became their game plan to move in that direction. Unfortunate how it got here, but it needed to be done.

The one statement from Neely that worries me more than a little was when he said: “I think everything is on the table as far as trying to improve the club,”

Its a loaded response from him because in the past the majority of Sweeney off season exploits have been a far cry from being successful. I don't know if I should cringe with the thought on what move he's going to do next in attempt to improve this team only to set them back even further or if I should be on the edge of my seat with the expectation that he finally is going to make the right moves moving forward.
Exactly.. I got that be afraid vibe to.He sounded desperate in a way and they need a top line centre or nothing is changing.

Neely to me as President is a steady hand - very diligent and hard working, loves the Bruins, has a good working relationship with Sweeney. But I don't see him as especially smart or visionary. Does that matter? Probably not much, most of the time. End of the day the GM does most of the roster work, but the Pres has a significant say in setting the general direction of the franchise and the type of team they want to have out on the ice.

In that sense I think when the Bruins are doing well, as they have done for the majority of Cam's tenure, then I think he's a fine President. And now, when they're trying a limited and fairly quick re-tool, I think that's still ok. It's a comparatively simple project, even if it's going to be very difficult to execute effectively. But if it fails and Boston are staring down a full rebuild, then I think that's the point Neely needs to go. Too long in the job and the wrong personality type to have the energy and dynamism required for that lengthy task. Same goes for Don for slightly different reasons.

So we'll see. They've been allowed to keep the keys to manage this re-tool. Right or wrong, so be it. Tough assignment but good luck to them. But if it doesn't work then I'd say both really have to go and the club will have to seek an entirely new leadership and direction. Last roll of the dice coming up.

“I think everything is on the table as far as trying to improve the club,” [Neely] said. He didn't continue, "Except, of course, a new President. Or GM. And possibly Head Coach, or assistant coaches. Aside from that, everything is on the table."

It's the same old crap.

Blah Blah Blah.

I am heartily sick to death of team President Cam Neely and General Manager Don Sweeney.

It's Sinden Lite as far as no accountability -- whatever Sweeney and Neely *say* -- and driving the bus to nowhere.

I've had a bad day and I'm in a bad mood, for which I apologize.

Reading this drivel hasn't improved my mood.

If Don Sweeney were fired he'd have 10 job offers in hand by the end of the day.

I think he's a tremendous GM but pretty much exhausted every resource this franchise has, so it's reset time. I trust him to run it, but also understand why others want new blood.

He would without question land on his feet pretty quickly. Something I wouldn’t mind seeing, because I have very little faith or trust in him making the right moves.

“I feel like the only time they really boo is when they don’t like the effort that’s put out. You can play bad hockey, but you can work hard and put the effort in.”
No, you can't. If you play bad hockey, you will get booed.

“[...]Joe stepped in and early on we were playing very well. We had a pretty good record and then we just stopped playing the way we should play for a stretch there and it really hurt us, but not the easiest situation for Joe to come in. But he’s handled it very well.”
I don't get this comment. New coach comes in, they have a dead cat bounce, then the team stopped playing the way they should... That indicates a problem somewhere, probably in the coaching staff, imo.

Received nothing , for Bergeron, Krejci, Hall, Bertuzzi, DeBrusk, Hathaway, Orlov, now I know retirement comes into play here, but that is what I am trying to say, Sweeney never prepared for those retirements, and was able to sign some additions that he made when he went all in, and could retain what he had in Hall........I know people don't like Bill Belechik, but lets be honest he might have moved on from players to soon, but rarely too late. Might not be the best comparison, but my point is if Sweeney made some moves as needed, and not this clean sweep he just made at this past TDL.
Hall did the Bruins and DS a huge favor by forcing his way here. He was IMO a great Bruin even though I was against the trade.
He proved that he wasn't a "locker room Cancer."
He played to his fullest and earned his very fair contract.
Then, out went Hall with the rest of the last minute, temporary Bruins.
No "thanks for wanting to be a Bruin" and loving the Spoked B (since childhood). For a guy who falls in love with his acquisitions, with Taylor Hall I felt like he didn't appreciate what he had, and how easy he got him.
Sweeney is a rare breed. Loyal to a fault, but only to a certain extent.
When he used all of those pics to go "all in" he did it with Jacobs blessings.
Now, he's got to refill the cupboards, restock the shelves and not simply with just "good guys, decent players" but do as deep a dive into as many players as possible with a solid plan as to the kind of player, that they're looking for.
Also, with a few 1st and 2nd round picks, especially if they end up with that first rounder for Brad, they need to use that currency for both the upcoming season, bridge players for 203 years from now, and players who look to be sure bets (I know there are no "sure bets" but sometimes those highly touted "can't miss, sure bet" guys are exactly that.
In the later rounds I like what they've been doing but would rather have more Canadian and American kids so that they can keep a much closer watch over them. Does anyone here know how much scouting goes on for Nordics like Russian, German, Finnish etc. players by the Bruins?

I’m hearing there is a fire pit scene
Yes, Cam and Don have their interns taking notes so that they know who's singing:partytime: Kumbaya :cheer:and who aren't.
Those who don't :baghead:will not get a hotdog on a stick to cook over the flame, just a little shove toward the pit.

Chias last five years as Bruins GM vs Sweeney’s past five years. Why is he still GM?

I was 11 when I sat down to watch the leafs and Bruins in 1973.
We lost 7-3 but Bobby scored all three of our goals.
Pure heart and determination.

All 3 goals start at 1:41 I do believe.
Even the leaf fans who booed him throughout the game applauded him.
