Since It Is The Offseason, How About Some NYR Trivia?

Right on.

Im thinking the first one is either a player that came up with the Rangers and had a rookie number, solidified a spot and got a real number, then left the team and came back. Or, someone who just had a laughable amount of stints with us.

Maybe Ruchinsky?

I'll give you a hint.

This player didn't even play 10 games for the Rangers.

Great Question - I was about to say Phil Esposito who wore #5, and #12 before going to #77 and thought maybe there was a 4th #!

Man the 4th # is a killer? John Davidson? (00, 30, 35,?)
Both played more than 10 games.

Dale Weise?

EDIT: Trying to think of guys that came up and went down a lot, but I feel like Dale played more than 10 games.

Hmm, maybe Peter Ferraro? Seemed like that dude was up and down for a cup of coffee every year in the 90s.
He literally took a #17 jersey out of my hands in the late 1980s. I had to let him have it because his family seemed to be in charge of the drop in game. I still haven't forgiven him. UGH

Have not heard the right answer yet!

This player has played over 400 total NHL games, but fewer than 10 as a Ranger, where he used 4 different jersey numbers.

He won the Calder Cup with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Jason Dawe? Dont think he played that many games but maybe? I don't know. Im guessing.

Ahhh Derek Armstrong. That makes more sence.

We do not have Sam and Joe to do NYR related trivia in our offseason.

I will start but encourage anyone to post their own.

My 2 trivia questions will be Wayne Gretzky related.

Which one time NYR was the best man at Wayne's wedding?

Which one time NYR let up the first goal in Wayne's NHL career?

Now you can cheat by doing internet searches but if you do cheat I will know and I will hunt you down, lol. :D

Time for Sam and Joe to reveal the correct answers to my questions.

1. Ed Mio was Waynes best man.

2. Glen Hanlon let up Waynes first NHL goal.

Pat Hickey and Kelly Kisio we’re both correct answers.

Mark Pavelich (16 and 40)

Ulf Dahlen (#9 went to Bernie Nichols, switched to 16).

Troy Mallette (#26 given to Kocur, switched to 16)

Brian Noonan (when he returned in 96-97, wore #28)

Pat Verbeek (originally #17 in 1995, wore 16 in 95-96)

Mike York (18 then 16)

Tom Poti (was #3 - switched to 16 after 04-05 lockout)

Jason Ward (was 14, switched to 16 for Shanahan)

Cannot confirm but Rod Gilbert wore 16 for his first 2 seasons.

Derek Sanderson (4 and 16)

Derek Armstrong?

Bingo!

Derek Armstrong played 7 games for the Rangers, but he used numbers 17, 18, 21 and 37

No 18: 1998-1999 (01/15, 02/04, 02/07)
No 37: 1999-2000 (03/23)
No 17: 2000-2001 (01/13)
No 21: 2000-2001 (04/05, 04/07)

Armstrong started the 2000-2001 season wearing number 17 but while he was down in Hartford, we acquired Colin Forbes who picked no 17. So when Armstrong was called up again, he was given no 21, previously worn that season by Jason Doig.

In 2019-20, the New York Rangers had 4 players in their system (either under contract, or as an unsigned prospect) whose fathers played for the same NHL team exactly 20 years prior, in 1999-2000.

Can you name them, and their fathers?

No chance anyone gets this in my opinion. I can't remember any but I'm going to guess Mike Knuble because I once read something about his son.

It's easier to try and guess which 2019-2020 Rangers have a former NHLer as a father
Im sure I will go oh yeah when people post answers but my memory isnt there. Id guess Lemieux but don't think Claude played for Nashville. Oh I think Lias Anderson's father played in the NHL so he is my only real guess.
