Post-Game Talk: Sid is a Venomous Beast that You Can't Kill with a Broom

Oh man, Sid was actually a bit cross with the team's performance tonight. Saying that "for whatever reason, a lot of our guys just couldn't execute tonight." That's not a direct quote, but a fairly accurate paraphrase. Normally he just says something optimistic and vague.

+ Fleury. absolutely awesome effort from him tonight. without him, they lose convincingly.
+ Crosby. he just keeps going and going and going and going and going and going and going
+ Dupuis. rubbed off on Sutter's performance against Boston.
+ Kunitz. passed Stamkos in the scoring race.
+ Despres. i guess he's a solid player, eh? :sarcasm:
+ Overall team toughness. just like the Boston game, they didn't waver.

- Orpik. seriously, get off this team or find the old Orpik and tell him to wake up.
- Kennedy. what a surprise.

-- Leafs. **** you, Leafs!

Oh my Lord no! If I did that I'd get ban-hammered in 5 seconds. The Pens just trolled the Leafs and their fans on home ice: that's a plus for me.

If the shoe was on the other foot, I'd be throwing **** against the wall after a loss like this one...

ok i'm dumb lol i'm glad the Pens whipped the Leafs around a bit

+ Despres was awesome. I would feel very, very confident with him in our top 4 going forward. The nifty little plays he makes with the puck in his own zone to evade forecheckers and start the breakout are such a huge asset to our transition game. Also worth noting that he got 18 minutes of TOI tonight, and not because of any injuries to our defense. Hopefully this is a sign that Bylsma is trusting him. Even as a DB supporter, it is maddening to see this kid scratched. He is probably our third best defenseman at this point in time.

+ Sid, just for the pass on the game tying goal. Ridiculous vision there.

+ Dupuis continuing to produce despite all of the protesting that he doesn't belong on the top unit. Yes, he absolutely does. That top line is unreal right now.

- Powerplay was AIDS. Toronto applied a ton of pressure and we seemed completely unprepared for that kind of attack despite facing the same unit with the same strategy days ago. Frustrating. Letang absolutely kills it with his brutal decision making. Needs to be removed in favor of Despres. When Letang's not there the powerplay is simplified and much more effective.

- 4th line again horrendous. Adams and Glass are overrated PKers and black holes at even strength. Would love to see both waived, though it'll never happen.

I like that we've played better defensively of late but haven't sacrificed our identity as an offensive team. We're still making the odd high risk play which is FINE because we're a team built to score and you don't want to stifle that.

At the same time we're defending well, blocking shots, and not making bad plays in the d zone. And our goaltenders have been mostly very good the past three.

We're going to be a scary team when Geno is back and healthy.

Big minus to Glass for almost losing us the game with that horrible turnover that almost led to a Leafs goal.

I certainly can understand the frustration from the Pens. The first 2 periods weren't very good. They aren't going to win many hockey games, only playing 20 minutes of hockey.

That St. Bernard named Despres was pretty decent.

Despres is the Penguins third best defenseman, and the sooner Bylsma accepts that, the better off the Pens will be.

The disconcerting thought is that their fourth best defenseman might have spent this game in the press box.

The problem with Brooks is that he's taking dumb penalties. Sticking your knee out? Running a guy into the boards when his back is turned to you? This is Busch League ****.

My only fear right now is that might lull Ray Shero into a false sense of security, just like last year.

3rd? Hmmmmm

First with RRP, now almost entirely with you, I'm going to agree with one question: How comfortable do you feel asking Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis to get it done in the playoffs?

Does Sid not get an assist for getting a stick on the puck when he broke up the pass in front of the net?

Yeah, he looked drunk out there.

I agree...Despres should not be in street clothes on game night again this season.

Also...I like how when one of our D pinch in the O-zone, that our forwards are being very alert to cover up...good discipline there.

+ Winning close games

- Zzzzz.

- Canadian announcers do more to make people hate Crosby than Crosby. On the play where Kunitz brought the puck in, passed to Dupers and he scores the 2nd goal of the night... all they talk about afterward is Crosby, who didn't actually touch the puck, and how he's responsible for the goal. And then give him the first star while Fleury had 29 SV out of 30 and Dupers had two clutch goals. No wonder people hate us; it's not us it's the fricking Canadian "Golden Boy Media Syndrome".

- Orpik, Kennedy, and everyone else who needs to be traded / make room for new blood.

Brooks Orpik right now just reminds me so much of Mark Recchi before he was traded. Maybe he'll find his second wind elsewhere, but he's just Mr. 'Do As I Say, Not as I Do' right now.

As a side question, WTF is with Paul Martin expecting Orpik to make even one on target cross ice pass in the defensive zone? That expectation just leaves him horribly out of position when the pass does come. :shakehead

Yeah, he looked drunk out there.

Now that would explain his puck management.
