No.

Omfg, that picture is just plain scary! reminds me somehow of ghostbusters :D

Answer to OP is no. Or remove GMG also.. Have the teams face each others one/two times and declare the one with most points the winner? (Depends on how many teams there is)

They could play final and bronze game before semifinals. That way you have to give your best in bronze game also.

I think it feels better initially but a few years down the road guys will be proud of their silvers and what an accomplishment it is.
Exactly, initially it feels better but when you look back at it you didn't even make the gold medal game. I'd take making the gold medal game and actually having a chance at the gold over losing in the semis and getting bronze.

Bronze medal game stays, and this thread never happens if the US wins that game 5-0.

Yes. It's a meaningless game, unless you are one of the smaller countries with something to prove. Russia, USA, and Canada all would see bronze as a loss as well.

What a slap in the face to all the other Olympians. How many people in the last two weeks stood on the bronze medal podium grinning from ear to ear?

USA isn't top3 country anymore tho. and neither is Russia. if only USA had won the bronze match 5-0, all this talk wouldn't even exist :naughty:

How else would you award the Bronze medal? Doing it by standings would be lame, and wouldn't make sense when the Gold is awarded by winning a game, not by coming 1st in the standings. The Bronze game might not be all that exciting to a lot of people, but I don't see any better way. Besides I'm sure the people of Finland enjoyed the game.

american bronze medalists look so sad it breaks my heart. winning that game must have been especially devestating since it was the world championships instead of olympics

In the bronze-medal game, Montreal's Alex Galchenyuk scored consecutive goals in the shootout for the Americans.

"After I scored the first one, I was pretty confident and I wanted to go at it one more time," Galchenyuk said. "We (coach Joe Sacco and Galchenyuk) kind of looked at each other, and I was like: 'I want to go,' and I'm happy that he let me. When you win a game for your country ... it's unbelievable. It's probably the happiest I've been in my life so far."

Nashville's Craig Smith and Colorado's Paul Stastny had first-period goals.

"It feels great," St. Louis forward T.J. Oshie said. "This is my fourth time playing for Team USA, and I hadn't gotten a medal. Obviously, we wanted it to be gold, but that's

Just another "only Canada or USA can win and we don't care about the bronze medal game blaa blaablaa" thread. Remember all the "keep classy" comments after 5-1 loss to Finland in wjc? They sure kept it classy after both olympic finals..

If you don't like it, don't watch.

The notion that something should be eliminated just because you have no interest in it is disturbing.

Team USA motto......

As for the bronze game, you have to keep it. Clearly it means something to some countries and you can't just award the bronze with no competition.

So if you eliminate the Bronze Medal Game in hockey, are you eliminating the Bronze Medal as well, or just the game itself??

Lol. No for sure. Players will be happy to have a Olympic medal some years down the road.

And the US isn't and never was a top 3 country.

wow what a sad looking bunch of guys. they don't care at all :sarcasm:

As far as the US losing in the bronze medal game, their is no reason they shouldn't have tried to win that game. Bringing a medal back no matter what color it is, is a great accomplishment. I do believe after they went down 2-0 and Kane missed both penalty shots that any momentum they even had was just gone. Kind of felt like it wasn't meant to be after that. But for them to just give up like that is a disgrace.

Even if they didn't care about winning it for themselves, they have no excuse to not try to add to their countries medal totals.

perhaps you should go tell TJ Oshie that he's wrong and it doesn't mean anything and Galchenyuk's happiest day of his life was worthless then?

Sure, any competitor playing in a game is happy to win. Jeez though...the World Cup couldn't be more meaningless except in Europe. It's the loser's route after the NHL playoffs and will always carry that badge of honor in North America.

Eliminate the so called top teams that aren't willing to go all to win it. If you're not ready to do that, you're not worthy of playing period. All you are at that point is a spineless coward.
