Should the Senators trade Norris to get a replacement for Zub?

I don't think the AAV is as much of a problem as the term.

Not every player is going to have a perfectly efficient cap hit. If Norris is a 6M player at 8M, that's not the end of the world.

The issue is going to be if they have concerns over his durability while he is signed for another 5 seasons after this one.

Agree with you. The longer he goes without getting injured again the more his value goes up. Then you are looking at a guy that's 20% overpaid, v.s a guy that is 100% overpaid because he can't even suit up. No clue how long it will take to prove his shoulder is OK. At least a full season I'd think.

And what is this chatter about Josh Norris not being a goal scorer? Before he ran into injury problems, he scored 47 goals in a 91 games stretch (second half of 2020-21 to the end of the 2021-22 season). That was like Top-12 in the NHL during that long stretch , tied with Mikko Rantanen IIRC. He was only 21 and 22 y/o at that time too. Norris was extremely promising. Now it remains to be seen what kind of level he can get back to, but he has been a "goal scorer" for years.

Norris at $8M for 6 more years has value?

It depends... $8M for 6 more years in 2017-18? Absolutely not

In 2025-26 with a cap trending towards 100 M$? Maybe

Also 6 years is including this season so he'll have 5 years left and if he goes through the season without injury, and scores 34 goals and 56 points (his actual pace), then why not?

No one said he'd have value like a Tkachuk

Pretty much this. It's easier to fill out the bottom 6 than to fill out the top 4.

If we do move Norris and Pinto is promoted to 2C, guys like Cousins, Gaudette, Gregor, & McEwan will have more ice time and there might be more opportunity for guys Ostapchuk and Reinhardt.

Yeah but as of right now, there's more in the Top-9 F than the Top-4 D

We have 3 very good productive forwards (Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson) but after that, we lack depth big time. Giroux is 36 y/o, in the last year of his contract and is pacing for 63 pts. Norris is pacing for 56 pts.

Are we going to go into next season with only Stutzle, Tkachuk and Batherson? Pinto has ONE half season where he paced for 54 pts. Is it enough to be confident in our offense? Are we going to sign more Perrons and Amadios? I mean...

With Yakemchuk coming, I started talking about last summer, the future/depth problem is really on offense now.

Absolutely not. He’s a good 2c who can score and his 200 foot game is getting back to where he was headed pre injury. It would be foolish to trade him, or Pinto for that matter.

If we want a Jiricek type player trade, it has to be Greg that goes at this point.
