Should the Leafs make a surprise move and offersheet Subban?

Not worth giving up high draft picks for a defenseman, we have a whole bunch of great ones in the organization already.
 
realistically he's gonna want about 5mil per season. with the new cba thats this years first,second,and third round picks gone. Also with the lottery this year i think its a good idea to hold onto our pick. I'm all for getting a player of Subban's skillset but just horrible timing
 
His compensation would be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd based on the numbers from the previous CBA (may have been adjusted though). That is 5-6.4M per.

If I knew I'd be able to move some assets and regain 2 of the 3 picks lost I'd absolutely do it. 5.5M x 5 would be my offer. I think it is justified because you have 3first rounders and a very high second that haven't cracked the Marlies yet. Montreal is going to have some cap issues (even with Gohomez gone), so at the least you've caused them some difficulty there.

It would certainly kick the rivalry up a notch!

Seriously though I agree with the post that if 4m was all it would take he'd be signed by now. Kid is believing his hype and wants to get paid.

Pass on Subban.

I agree on all levels. frankly id overpay a bit just to seal the deal. 6x6. keep subban long term in toronto.

Would be too costly in draft picks, but WHY THE HELL NOT?

I mean honestly, what are the chances Montreal doesn't match? Slim to none. The draft pick compensation is likely more than I'd be willing to pay but not nearly enough for Montreal to give him up.

At worst it would really piss off Montreal and their fans, so really, there's nothing to lose.
 
Offer sheet? no. We do need those picks.

But Nonis should check and see if Bergevin is interested in moving him for something, if it turns out too much (which it probably would) then fine we back off. but otherwise why not look into it.

In short, no.

However I do wish this gets ugly and goes on a very long time. Subban is a great player and the Habs are a worse team without him.
 
In a shortened season where teams only play within their conference, I hope no teams offersheet subban.

Montreal will likely match any offer made and just gets PK playing sooner. Let them argue over the negotiations/contract, just causing Subban to miss some of the season and hurting the teams performance in the process.

I'm tired of giving our division rivals our first round picks. He's a good player, but there's no way we do this and have it work out in our favor. The hockey gods simply wouldn't allow it, clearly we pissed them off at some point.
 
How do you think it'll go over if Montreal steps up to the podium and selects Nathan MacKinnon?

Steven Stamkos you could argue about. PK Subban? No thank you sir.
