Rumor: Should the CBJ pursue Elias Pettersson?

I'm thinking less that and more "they're going to move him instead". I'd always figured it would be one or the other. Mostly because if they move both, then I think within two or three years all the Hughes brothers will be reunited in New Jersey.
I used to think that, but Rutherford really seemed to imply they both might be out the door.

Now I’m sure since miller is out they may try to make it work with Pettersson but we’ll see

Truth be told, if they try to make it work with Petterson with Miller out and it still doesn't work out, then my interest in Petterson vanishes quickly.

I think this lowers the chances of EP heading our way to close to zero. I think it was one or the other.

If they're trading both and not getting high end win now pieces back (which we aren't giving them) then Quinn Hughes is gone too. They're going to do everything in the world to avoid doing that.

And they are probably thinking many teams would feel the same. Will be interesting if they try to see if his play improves or they continue to listen on him

Well, they certainly didn't get anything close to high end win now players in the Miller deal. Then add in Boeser probably gone and Demko with his broken hips unhappy... I mean they could hope for a Winnipeg type turnaround but they may be forced into a rebuilt/retool/whatever they want to label it

Brutal Return for a player of JT Miller's on ice capabilities. Definitely confirms the buy low possibility of other assets.

Don't tempt me with a good time of the thought of Quinn in NJ with Luke and Jack. That trio on the same team would put the Sedin twins to shame.

Absolutely not. In fact, one should be predicting the exact opposite.

The motivating need for trading one or both of Miller/Petterson was to remove a severe chemistry problem in the locker room. That sort of thing naturally depresses value, because you're inherently picking up an extremely distressed asset. Once the move is made - and if it's confirmed successful - then after that values rebound back up because the need to move the assets in question has gone away.

There's a whole heck of a lot more to "all trades are need-based" than one might expect on the surface.

That would be very fun to watch but also pure hell to have as opposition in-division. I'm torn, really.

I really want to see them together. I think we'll still have a fighting chance against Team Hughes in a playoff series. We've got some guys that I think will be strong in that environment.

I can tolerate it quite a bit more since I was a Devils follower before the CBJ existed. Im torn right now if I want to buy a Marchenko or Luke Hughes away jersey next.

I won't say a trade for EP40 won't happen now, but it is less likely. It will depend on if the relationship between EP40 and the club really was soured (it seemed like it from the outside looking in) and if so, is it beyond repair? Will be fun to follow.

I think at minimum this puts EP40 talk on the shelf for a few weeks. To see how he responds to Miller leaving and how the team does with that pressure out of the room.

But no, I don’t think this necessarily means he’s staying in Vancouver. Not yet at least

It definitely sounded like Rutherford was ready to move on from both of them, so I wouldn't be that surprised if EP still gets moved. But, I agree it seems most prudent for them to see if he rebounds now that Miller is gone - it would probably be a trade in the summer foe EP if it happens.

Yeah it was pretty obvious Vancouver was gonna get HOSED on either player. That being said we are talking about the wrong Canuck here to trade for that would be a player of need if we think we are gonna push for playoffs (though personally I am just thinking we should see what Nashville wants for Goose, see what we can get out of #9 and roll with what we have...we are playing on vibes at this point don't need to break what is working)

really depends. Even if you don't get 100 point Pettersson and you don't give up the top players a top 6 of Voronkov-Monahan-Marchenko (when healthy) Fantilli-Pettersson-Johnson helps you get to the playoffs 100%
