Should Bruce Cassidy get the full-time head coaching job for the Bruins?

I say yes, but no more than a 2 year contract to see if he pans out.

EDIT: I like the way most of the players have responded to his coaching style since Clode was fired, and the offense although still inept has been more exciting since Cassidy took over. I think the lack of scoring has more to do with talent (or lack of) than it does with coaching.

seems like he has paid his dues within the organization, did a decent job rallying the guys.

In the playoffs we had quite a few comeback periods which is always nice to see, we were never out of games. Under Clode it felt like if we were down 2 goals, it was over.

I kinda like him in all the interviews I've heard, seems pretty straight forward with analyzing the games and comes across as honest and authentic..kind of a regular guy...in the post game fluff interviews.

So yea...not really opposed to letting him get a longer audition and see if the wheels start to come off.

He seemed to get a lot out of our guys and I don't think our defense really took that big of a hit with the departure of Clode...that defensive structure must be pretty engrained in the guys after a decade of it.

The tweaks he did make to it all seemed to pay off and didnt result in our defensive game falling off a cliff.

Yes.

I liked how the team played with him at the helm, and found him likable in interviews.

Weight showed enough to continue with the Islanders, and they didn't even make the playoffs.

Going outside the organization might shock the locker room, but I don't know if that is necessary at this time (firing Julien seemed to do that).

From the interviews I've seen, Cassidy seems like a very humble and likeable guy, and he doesn't get too crazy behind the bench like Claude did at times.

I said yes.

Its nice to have someone within the organization that the players like playing for....last thing I want is to bring in someone like Ruff and have him attached to older/aging players.

I really don't think there is a better option out there...

All coaches have a shelf life, but Cassidy is fresh right now. Let's see what he can do with a full season.

Not sure.

The trap has been around for a long time and he didn't react to it very well.

How did you expect him to re-act with so much dead weight on the team?

Again, it didn't end well but I don't think many people were that upset when we lost; yes its always disappointing; but we had nothing left in the tank.

Well nobody will disagree the first line was the only target, desperate times, desperate measures, we never saw 100 separated.

63 and 37 with who else, it was never tried.

Bergeron and Marchand apart has not been tried and we reached the point it should have been.

Yes, just making the playoffs did it for me after the legend failed the last 2 years. Better conditioned athletes, better prepared and fair, played who was hot and got them to compete a full 60 entertaining minutes.

That's how I feel.

Also, Marc Savard wants to be our pp coach, the B's would be foolish not to hire him.

Is that true? Would love to see Savvy in the organization. However, the PP was great this season, not sure if it's the best idea to change it up . . .

Looks like a pretty good consensus so far.

I kind of thought the "yes" votes would be a majority, but I’m a bit surprised there is only 2 "no" votes so far.

It would been interesting to hear a brief explanation from the "no" voters.

Keeping it fresh and evolving will keep it potent.

Teams have our tape, we'll need someone creative to change it up, and I'd welcome Savvy on our bench.

I don't remember exactly but weren't we the best or top 3 team in points in the last part of regular season after Bruce took over? There's little doubt in my mind that he earned this position. He ll have full offseason and later preseason to work on things his way. Looking forward to starting new season with him behind the bench.

Butch has been a "good company guy" and did everything asked of him, from putting in some years in Providence, to being and assistant, and now getting the interim tag. The team seems to have responded well to him, he comes across as genuine in his interviews, and, IMO, hasn't done anything to screw his chances. Give him a 3yr deal and run with it.

am I allowed to say I would be more than comfortable with him being behind the bench full time but would not at all be opposed or frustrated if Sweeney had/has been looking at all options before naming the next coach?

This is a hugely important next move, yes Butch had great success this season, grateful and quite shocked he got out of this team which I didn`t think they had in them however, tons of youth coming soon and while I appreciate he was the coach in Providence for years and undoubtedly worked with plenty of kids, that doesn`t mean he`s the obvious choice.

We have seen some B`s over that time who played for Bruce who have gone onto nice NHL careers but has there been enough? Was/did he get provided with enough solid talent to develop and help earn a promotion? I don`t have all the answers.

Then there`s the flip side of things, Butch has paid his dues, he appears to be well respected within the organization and I have to think Sweeney likes his candor and approach being a guy (Cassidy) who tells it like it is and this may be one of those "no brainers"

I`m personally a fan who likes to explore all options before a decision is made but I suspect DS has been doing this all along but there`s a risk he`d offend Butch if this took too long. A decision, one way or another I suspect will come soon

I voted yes, but if a proven top level coach who employs a modern system (no ultra defensive stuff like CJ or Boucher, please) would be available, I would say get that guy.
From a meritocratic point of view, Cassidy earned a shot at it, though.

Yes, by all means. The players like him, he's paid his dues, and if he gets the job for good I will definitely look forward to next season. If we even think about recycling someone like Ruff or whomever, I will explode.
