Richards has more points and goals than Nash this postseason. While he is dreadful and absolutely hurting this team, he has been more productive than Nash. Go figure.

What a waste of $16M this season.
It's very difficult to win it all in spite of this. There are two cancers on this roster that we must purge this off season, win or lose.

If Nash played badly tonight I'd be the first person to say so. He played hard and well. His salary has nothing to do with which players should be on the ice for use in this series.
I doubt that, you are clearly blinded by your affection for him but he has been dreadful this post season (and everyone one he has played in). He doesn't play like a superstar in the playoffs, he gets overshadowed by 4th line guys and career journeymen.

This should be his last game as a Ranger. I coach a team of 10 year old kids that could skate circles around him. He is an abomination.

I am not sure what 5 goals in 38 games has to do with his game tonight.
It proves over a reasonable sample size that he doesn't score in the playoffs and this was demonstrated tonight as well as on Wednesday. It's not that hard to understand. He wasn't brought here to forecheck or play hard (and have nothing to show for it), he was brought here to score. Something he absolutely doesn't do in the playoffs. Nor does he even put up points. He has less points than Brad Richards this post season. Yeah, he as played well. Show me any reasonable metric that proves he has played well this post season.

Would you care to make a wager on him scoring on Monday based on those odds?

Absolutely not. This is the team we came with, this is the team we're leaving with, championship or not.

But good God, get him off the point on the power play. At least by the 3rd period.

It seems to me you do not quite understand what you are talking about. One poster said "He played fine" after the game tonight referring to his game tonight. You said no he has 5 goals in 38 games so that means he was bad. One has nothing to do with the other. What if he scores 2 goals on Monday? Will he have played a bad game because he only has 7 goals in 39 playoff games?

My affection for Nash? Now you are really reaching. I wanted him traded most the season. Sounds like you are just trying to deflect from any talk about Richards. Nash played well tonight. Bashing him after tonights game makes as much sense as calling a girl who just lost 100 pounds fat.

Oh my goodness, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Bench his broken-down, worn-out ass NOW. Not only would it give the team a better chance to the win the series, it would ensure that he remains healthy for his forthcoming compliance buyout.

I said he has been absolute trash, meaning in the playoffs this year and his career, so he should be a healthy scratch along with Richards and the outcome of the games wouldn't be any different. Has contributed nothing offensively tonight or this entire series..No where did I mention tonight, but i don't think he played well enough tonight but that's an entirely different argument because you would be hard pressed to come up a with reasonable metric proving how well he played tonight.

I justified my comment by saying he has only scored 5 times in his playoff career, which is nearly 40 games which also puts him in some very lowly company. I said said that he couldn't be counted on to score this series and that that there is a reasonable sample size to justify my claim.

His play tonight may have been worse than his play that got him benched during last year's playoffs. He can't stay on his skates, is super slow, and is our worst defensive forward by a country mile.

AV has given him too much leeway. Richards should have been removed from the PP a long time ago, or at least relegated to the 2nd unit, but often times he will be on the PP for the full 2 minutes. He was a liability tonight and I was hoping that AV would shorten the bench and give Brassard or D. Moore some shifts in Richards' place but it never happened. I would be beyond shocked if Richards was a healthy scratch but his play has certainly earned him some sort of demotion.

What an awful contract. Folks questioned it at the time. He lost a bit of a step in Dallas. He lost everything in NY.

Haven't seen since early May. Total non factor vs Habs and now Kings.

I called them both trash, so I'm not deflecting anything from Richards. The only thing I said about Richards, is that he has contributed more offensively to this team than Nash has this post season.

Richards did help offensively earlier in the playoffs. You would expect that from somebody that plays both halves of almost every PP. The problem is he is barely trying on defense and is now one of our few minus players in the playoffs. He can turn things around but he has to actually skate. His defensive effort lately has been very sad to watch when others are willing to give a kidney to win.

He doesn't fit this system. It was a bit odd when he wasn't brought out last year.

it made sense...i always saw him as a placeholder this year so our kids could get better and hopefully something better would come on the FA market.

but im not sure how you play a speed game or a puck possession game with a guy who clearly sucks at both.

i rant about him A LOT on my post game wrap tonight (rangersreview.com)

lol

Take out Nash and I guarantee our GAA goes up. Our GPG would probably go down, too.

if you think Nash should be a scratch, you are out to lunch. Straight up.

To be fair Richards did help the team this year in the regular season and in the playoffs but lately he has just stopped playing defense.

see, im not so sure he did. really all he did this year was shoot the puck at every single opportunity. thats it. He didnt make plays, he didnt make the guys around him better...all he did was fire the puck atthe net at every conceivable point...other than that im not so sure hes been all tha tmuch better than last year.

It was more hyperbole than anything else because is there is exactly 0% chance he would ever be a healthy scratch but long story short he hasn't been great, in terms of actual production, but that's an argument for another thread.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person that noticed that. He used to be a passer but now most his assists come on rebounds. I do think Richards helped the team especially early on in the season but his lack of defensive effort in some of these playoff games is just hard to understand.

He played tonight???

You know people rag on Nash but he's only invisible offensively. Richards' horrible play is clearly visible in ALL 3 zones and it will be the death of us. AV needs to give him sheltered ass minutes at home when he can put him up against Mike Richards, who is also awful right now.
