It is not only how many goals Bergy scores....It is how many goals he prevents the other team from scoring.

If he wants to come back the Bs will be lucky to have him.

If it is his choice to call it over, I respect him.

Whatever he does and whenever he retires, I hope Patrice takes some time and then returns to the Bruins in some capacity.

He will always add value to the team.

Likely Toronto fans.
Can we see who voted ?

Makes no sense any rationale thinking Bruins fan wants a player both statistically and metrics coming off a great season

And let’s be real no Bruins fan wants him to retire because he might get hurt

Comical

If he’s not healthy he retires but if he’s healthy why not play

They hammered Florida 10-4 in games 3 & 4 without him so he can be somewhat supportive

This isn't a question we as fans can answer. It has binary considerations that we can't properly weigh, not being in Bergy's shoes.

Should he come back because he clearly has hockey left in him to play?

Should he retire because he's made his money, he's been beat to hell over the years and he wants to spend more time with his wife, kids, dad, etc.?

How can we make that call? I wouldn't pretend to know what's best for him and what's in his heart.

If it were just a hockey question, he should come back. If I were him, I would retire.

It's pretty funny seeing posters on here saying it's fine for him to return as a 3rd line player next year, he's easily still a quality 2nd line center at worst. Who wouldn't want him back, seriously.

How can you even think to argue that this team is better off without him next season? They have no cap and no one in the lineup nor coming out of Providence that can come close to filling his shoes. He's still an top 6 center in this league and one that this team still desperately needs.

That said, and as many others have already stated, it's Patrice's choice. Not the Bruins nor is it ours.

I voted yes, but vote is based on "will he". and I think he will. No way do I think he should.

His injuries and I think his dad being sick, is probably going to have him hang them up.

Got to see him play live in Saskatoon, even scoring, and I am grateful for that.

One the best ever. I think the only hockey trophy he didn't win was the Memorial Cup.

Even at 50%, bergeron is still a #3 center

if he wants to come back one more year on the cheap for a proper send off then he should

something tells me based on how he approached game 5-7, he isn’t done.

but ultimately it’s also sweeney’s call too….

They certainly need a center or two for next year. If he comes back and they are going for it then it should be in a 3rd line role.

Unless he comes back as 3rd line center, yes he should retire.

I'd prefer they start fresh. So the Bruins have been more competitive in the RS than the Blackhawks lately? I would be much happier if they had Bedard coming in than facing the cap and roster issues that they face the next few seasons.

I have to say, there is nothing that will make me happy about the 23-24 regular season. I will watch every game with an eye towards how it looks or translates to the playoffs, I don't care if they win 82 games.

He can still skate. When not dealing with a back problem that is.

Still has good hands. Clearly knows how to play in his own end.

If he still has the want to win they should bring him back for sure. I’d want to know what his thoughts are though on 3rd line minutes, pp2 time. Maybe not even killing penalties. Playing 55-60 games in total.

In short ya I’d love him back. But there has to be some honest talk about what he can still do out there to survive until the post season

It's time. In the regular season Bergeron can still go, very much so. After all, he's odds on to win another Selke. But the regular season is just light entertainment. Playoffs are where it gets real, and where a player's ultimate ability to contribute needs to be judged. And Bergy has been declining in that regard. Staal had the better of him last year. This season he was injured, but even so the difference between what an older Bergeron could bring compared to a younger, more physically able and impactful Bennett was noticeable. And that gets to the other point - Bergy's about to turn 38, has a huge amount of mileage on the meter, and the body is wearing out. I think expecting him to be a genuinely effective top 6 center in the playoffs is now asking too much.

I think if Patrice wanted to play next year as a 3C he could do it, but would he want to, and is it really in the long term interests of the team? Doubtful. He's absolutely earned the right to choose when to hang up the skates, and I would never say that he 'must' go. But I just think this is a good time for him to walk away, and to do it while he still has something left in the tank.

My gut feeling though is he'll find it difficult to quit, knowing he's still got something to offer and given how this year ended. I suspect he'll sign for one more year and if he does I'll support him in that.
