Out of the guys out there right now I think Laviolette would be my preferred replacement for Keefe. A no-nonsense coach whose teams tend to play up-tempo offensive hockey.

Edmonton went through three coaches until they found one that clicked with the players.

They also went through two GMs.

And still haven't won anything and are currently down in the second round... your point?

At least use a recent cup winner like Colorado, who stuck with their GM, coach, and core when the fans wanted them gone.

I'm pretty sure the Oilers aren't "down".

We could revisit in 8 hours, but why not just admit that you were wrong? No matter where we're at in 8 hours won't change that as of right now, what you said was wrong.

I did by saying I was thinking about the Kraken series, that is saying I am wrong... not a hard concept to grasp that admitting I was thinking about a different series would make me wrong about the other series.

Fair enough.

I will just add one thing, I've defended Keefe so many times, I probably try too hard to be fair minded but I've reached the point when I will say that Keefe is just a really bad coach.

The core shoulders alot of blame for being a bunch of spoiled brats who have barely squeezed out one series win, but it does boggle the mind a bit that Toronto decided to hire a rookie GM who hired a rookie coach. Add to that that Shanahan was also a rookie exec.

Would this core have developed differently if Dubas didn't cave to Nylander*, Matthews, and Marner? Or if Keefe wasn't so scared of his stars that he walks back the smallest criticism to the media.

The Leafs had the most draft luck in decades and they may have squandered it. I've said for awhile they shouldn't have had a rookie GM and a rookie coach. One or the other.

As for Keefe specifically, he was gifted a handful of stars in their prime, of course he has a good regular season record. When it matters most though (playoffs) he has been a total failure who is consistently out coached and fails to adapt to the smallest change.

You have to wonder how the group would respond to a different coach who isn't scared to criticize them and doesn't get clowned every year in April/May. Unfortunately I'm not sure they get a chance together as Keefe/Dubas aren't the only changes to come.

(*I am fine with Nylander's contract and it has aged well, but the way Dubas caved to him at the last minute was a disaster. He should have simply given the contract at the beginning of the summer rather than look weak later on which resulted in Marner threatening with the same tactic. It made Dubas look like a weak negotiator from the start)

It's amazing that he showed a modicum of capability last series, only to revert back to the out of his depth coach we've seen before Don't get it, was it a fluke? How could he go from making proper adjustments against Tampa to stubbornly sticking with a lineup that's not working this series?

Keefe 100% has to go, regardless of the fate of everyone else in the organization. One series win in four attempts where you were the favourite is not good enough, not by a long shot.

If you seriously don’t get that trying a different person, personality, voice in the locker room
Or in the office instead of giving the same guy a shot every year without results then I don’t know what to tell ya.

May have something to do with the fact that we were still getting a ton of chances but just weren't scoring. The team we saw in game 3 looked done for though unfortunately.

Maybe it's all part of the plan.

" It refers to the strategy of letting your opponent win points early to give them a sense of overconfidence, thus exposing a much easier target for you later."
