Someone mentioned Lou?

The guy has ruined teams in the cap era.

The Islanders basically got in the playoffs because a few teams continued to crap the bed. And it was a early exit for them.

Who wouldnt want to coach this leaf team? Its the Meca of hockey. They have talent and some really good young kids.

Shanny and Tre better aim high.....not have that fiasco Tre had in Calgary with his coaches.

And why hasnt tho damn assistants been fired yet? Their coaching was a big disappointment.
PP sucked at bad times, PK was pathetic all year. And the defensive scheme took forever to jell and it still wasnt great but its hard to play good D when half your D is as slow as molasses and have the hockey IQ of a gnat. More to D then crosschecking and pushing guys after the whistle.

And all that grit made no difference in our playoff success. We still couldnt score.
Lets try a different Athem signer.....or maybe we should put those pyramids back under the bench for positive energy. The leafs sure need it as the mediots in TO are all doom and gloom all the time.

If they're willing to hire Quenneville then he's easily the best candidate.
Great coach but there's way too much crap that's gonna come with Q with the whole Kyle Beech situation.

I prefer Gallant, I feel like his attitude is what this team so desperately needs, especially the core forwards. Berube is a good option obviously, heard some people mention Julien as well.

Berube would be fine. I wouldn't mind Woodcroft either tbh.

Really don't want McClellan. Not excited about the idea of Gallant either.

Really they should tamper and throw the bank at Rod but not expecting that to work.
Depends, if the rangers make short order of the canes, I think there is a good chance he becomes available

Does he have clearance from the NHL, I can't remember where they ended up with that.

Even if he did have the ability to work in the NHL again, I doubt the Leafs would want to bring in a coach with his past, lots of noise.

Exactly. He's the last guy that should be the Leafs coach. I can't see him coaching again frankly speaking

I say just wait it out, lets see what happens in Carolina. Then park the bus with some money at Rod's house

Gallant never seems to last long in big markets, I wonder why?

His teams sour on him way too fast.

Had to be done

Best of luck to Keefe, I thought he did a pretty solid job under some pretty tough circumstances but if you don't get results you get the chop

Let's see who gets the job, can't say in a huge fan of Berube or a lot of the guys being mentioned

I'd love Rod, he would probably be my first choice right now.

The issue is the risk that comes with the waiting game. Don't want to lose out on some of the names currently out there while waiting for some one with no assurances.

Not only has Julien not coached in 3 years, but in that same period he's barely been linked heavily with any vacancies around the league.

Insane that he'd be number 1 on anyone's list, respectfully.
I forget if this was on NHL radio (morning skate) or one of the Friedman/Marek shows but I do remember hearing his name come up recently. They referenced him going to a team that needs better structure and discipline

No clue I was just going based on the information they've called Quenneville.

If that's true, they might not be as against to the idea as we assume. From a simple coaching perspective, it's a no-brainer and no other candidate even comes close in my opinion. Sadly it's not that simple with him or he would already have a job somewhere else.

But a lot of groundwork has to be done both at the Leafs and NHL level if they go down this route.

Shanahan trying to save his job by firing Keefe. What a cop out.

There is no coach in the NHL who was winning any playoff series with that garbage goaltending. Samsonov and Woll are absolutely trash. The very worst in the NHL

Keefe was given a very difficult hand to play.

The previous coach tried to enforce systems on the team that would succeed in the playoffs. But that lowers padded stats for the entitled and selfish star players. So they all rumbled to the media and turned Babcock into Hitler overnight. His crimes were things like "yelling" at millionaire adults. But ok. Moving on.

Keefe comes in fully knowing that there will be open rebellion if he doesn't let them play with who they want to play with, and if he enforced systems that won't let them pad their regular season stats.

Like, what is he supposed to do? He doesn't want to be turned into a cartoonish level super villain like they did to Babcock. So he let them pad their stats in the regular season fully knowing it won't go well in the playoffs. He'll get a few years, make a dozen million dollars or so, and then eventually get fired without being turned into Hitler by the media. It was his only real option.
I have no idea how close to reality this story is but I was riveted either way
