Babs did a lot of things that didn't fly today. Whether you agree with the way society turned is a whole different debate.

I would argue Babs tenure wouldn't have been so great without some guy name Nik Lidstorm who can make any coach look like a generational coach

Hyman was the heart and soul of this team, many nights he was the only one willing to go to the dirty areas to feed the “elite talent” the puck. That is all………

He was on a 30 goal pace twice here and he was hurt two years in the playoffs. Recall when Dubas was over paying, his minions were like "what's half a million", "a little rich but doesn't really matter", add it all up and up could afford to keep a Hyman. That's why it mattered. Dubas killed the team by never addressing the biggest need which was always our 'average' at best defense. He signed and traded for lots of bottom 6 'depth' players, but never went after what we actually needed which was the Stud D, like Pietrangelo. had Dubas signed that 1 player, we may have won a cup by now, having a true all-star #1D cannot be overlooked or overcome by filling the squard with 3-6 dmen.

No, he killed the team by giving 4 extremely soft forwards 40+M of the cap. That’ll kill your team right there. The proof is in the pudding.

Shanahan has one year left. He'll be neutered for this last season, most likely. The disdain is warranted but people need to keep perspective. It would be a pound of flesh at best if he were fired right now. I don't think he will factor into what Tre does or does not do for the next year.

It could be that Tre reports to Pelley on all hockey related and Shanny reports on business related

Keefe was a defensive specialist coaching an offensive powerhouse. All of his preaching about trusting the process was one sided. He didn't seem concerned that our structure moving the puck through the neutral zone and in the o-zone had us running head first into a brick wall over and over again. Our skilled players could will us past a weak or disengaged opponent, but as soon as we were faced with a gameplan the messaging boiled down to "push through, find a way".

No activating the D, no presence netfront, no structure in place for quick, lateral puck movement. Just ragging the puck and waiting for a highlight pass or individual effort. Goalies LOVED playing the Leafs under Keefe. He'd do well with a team like the Islanders.

• McLellan has a hard time in Edmonton, no team is built more like the Leafs than Edmonton - not a guy I would put at the top pf the coaching list.
• Berube - did he just catch a lucky break and a hot goalie?

For me, the only two guys that make sense from an ability perspective are unavailable. Trotz took his retirement GM job in Nashville and Quenneville is in the little Minion's jail for bad boys.

Maybe this is where the Leafs flex their muscle and say with our our welfare payments to Gary's pet projects in the south, he wouldn't be able to fund them

The Avg tenure for a coach is 2.4 years.

It's not really like they got two coached fired.

Babcock was going because of the stupid shit he did in the wrong era.

Keefe probably overstayed his ability.

Yeah that's fair. But I think it's also true that team stopped playing for Babs or he would have been around for a bit longer at least. And yeah Keefe had a nice long term here as it is but still, I think he made some mistakes but overall, I'd say Keefe still did a better job coaching than the players did playing.
