I'm genuinely curious, do people think that putting more pressure on the team and treating them worse will lead to more success?

Also, do people think free agents will want to come here more if we treat our current players worse?

I see no benefit to making our current players uncomfortable.
It's not about pressure, it's about putting and making them accountable for their poor play, maybe when they accept how they are playing isn't good enough there might be improvement.

Every single time Keefe challenged them, he's had to walk it back because we can't upset them and challenge them. They have been pampered for 8 years now and the results show it. Keefe and 44 were the only ones to accept their responsibility for the failure, while the others think what they are doing is good enough, it isn't.

It also doesn't help when they take us to the cleaners for every penny on contracts and then give you dogshit performances in the playoffs.

This is BS. I don't buy that for a minute.

He didn't like something around here. But, it wasn't the scrutiny.

Maybe too many Tim Horton's here?

Not sure this guy is the definition of leadership and wise decisions.

People want to drive players out of town, I've seen it said multiple times.

It isn't a great talking point when trying to sell the team for UFAs.

That's how Keefe kept the job so long. He read his bosses and provided the services they wanted. He's no dummy.
It is. Brand new position for him and he played it smart while establishing himself. Nobody can blame him for that. Now that he is a known NHL commodity he can have the confidence to let his fire( I know he has it) out when appropriate.

Every time I see Hyman burying goals it pisses me off, let exactly what this teams needs to walk because he wasn’t sexy enough……..

Does it make you angry that he never did it here in 5 seasons or for some other reason?

The same people that are happy that Keefe is gone because he didn't get results wanted us to keep Hyman even though he didn't get results.

Shanahan has one year left. He'll be neutered for this last season, most likely. The disdain is warranted but people need to keep perspective. It would be a pound of flesh at best if he were fired right now. I don't think he will factor into what Tre does or does not do for the next year.
This is the nuance I'll be looking for insight into when they all talk tomorrow - I personally think and have heard, that Pelley hasn't been there long enough to really factor into making major decisions yet, which makes me think that not only will there be no change this year, but Shanahan's positions & powers remain in place.

Which is a huge problem. If the buy building my house failed to do it properly after a decade, I'd have 0 interest in giving him another year.

Yes. But that doesn't mean that he was telling the truth. He was just being diplomatic because he's not going to publicly shit on a team while being an active player.

The guy won a cup and IIRC the Conn Smythe in 2019. Does that sound like someone who is afraid of scrutiny?

Not to mention. Why would he agree to be traded here in the first place? Do you really think he didn't know about the "media scrutiny" here until he got here last trade deadline?

And BTW. I use that term media scrutiny here very loosely because I don't even think they're that bad.

There's a big difference between winning an award and dealing with the level of media and fan interest every single day.

He eventually signed a contract in a team in a warm weather, fairly quite market that wasn't expected to make the playoffs this year (at least from last summer's pov). I think it's safe to say he was prioritizing comfort for him and his family above anything else more so than being any sort of referendum on the team.

Have you seen them play in the last 7 years in the playoffs? Clearly they haven't because they keep losing in the exact same fashion. The star players are coddled and babied. No one can push back against them cause it might make them upset.

I think people want players here that are going to play hard for the logo on the jersey and take accountability when they don't get the job done, instead of hearing that they are close and there's only a little difference.

Agree 100%. First they got Babcock fired, now Keefe. Hope they play better for the next guy.
The Avg tenure for a coach is 2.4 years.

It's not really like they got two coached fired.

Babcock was going because of the stupid shit he did in the wrong era.

Keefe probably overstayed his ability.

Wait until we see who is hired and the job they do first. His coaching hires with the Flames were all terrible

"After a long search, the Leafs have hired Craig Berube, their first choice and one of their only interviews as the coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs"

I hope they do a long search, but I think it ends up being Berube, Brad has a weird obsession with anyone who has ever fought.

Hyman was the heart and soul of this team, many nights he was the only one willing to go to the dirty areas to feed the “elite talent” the puck. That is all………

Okay, so results only matter sometimes... like always.

Are they still paying out Babcock? It's not my money but can't be happy about this two times in a row.
