Tribute Sheldon Keefe Discussion Part 2

I had heard the stories but never read this detailed account.

Deserves a lot of credit for over coming what he did.

It's a great excerpt from the book about Keefe, but this part reminds me of how much of an idiot Steve Simmons is:

Not everyone is sold on Keefe, though.

Simmons, the newspaper columnist and author of the DantonFrost-Jefferson book, can't get there and maybe never will.
"I wish I could believe that Sheldon Keefe has completely turned his life around, and from everyone I talk to in the junior hockey world, he's a terrific coach, maybe an NHL coach one day," Simmons said. "But there's a part of me deep down that wonders about him. Maybe I know too much about his past...

Steve Simmons is walking pile of trash and anything he writes should be burned and never read

Simmons was a key journalist in bringing attention to David Frost and the impact he was having on children.

You may not like his sports opinions... but while most of hockey was turning a blind eye, Simmons was shining a spotlight.

Some good did come from his words.

Simmons does know a lot about Frost. Not sure about much else but he spent a lot of time on the Frost trail.

One issue that troubles me about Keefe is that as an adult, he didn’t see anything wrong with having Frost associated and hanging around his Junior A team.

12 counts of sexual exploitation on Frost that hasn’t gone to trial at the time.

Keefe also testified that a picture of a half naked kid (13) tied to chair was “taken out of context” in his overall support of Frost

He met with business leaders to restore his reputation. I’m not sure he met with parents or police to investigate whether his lack of judgement put anyone at risk.

I hope to God (or Charles Darwin) that nothing happened to anyone on that team under Keefe’s watch. Keefe has said there were zero incidents... but if there is a truth to be shared, it won’t come from him.

In a results business, he has yet to achieve the result of having a capable backup.

So what do you think about Keefe's back-up now or is it still too small a sample size for you. 3 straight wins give Hutch a record of 3-0-0, 1.67 GAA, .945 SV%.

Keefe’s back up? That’s a very strange way to phrase that. Keefe is responsible for goaltending performance now?

I know how I feel about Hutchinson. Andersen is a UFA in 1.5 years and I don’t think there is a proven successor.

Are YOU comfortable with Hutchinson being the next in line?

he is not a journalist, he is a columnist. His job is not to be correct it is to offer an entertaining opinion, and as far as how educated his hockey opinions are his reputation as a clown precedes him.

So he DID or DID NOT shine a light on David Frost?

And is shining a light on David Frost a GOOD or BAD THING?

Don't look now Hutch has 1 less win than our Lord and Saviour McBackup on the season, despite going winless as Babs fed him to the wolves. Hutch isn't going to turn into a great goalie, I doubt he turns it around to become a good backup goalie, but if managed properly the Leafs are way too good of a team to not be able to wring a single win out of a below average goalie.

Keefe has been using Hutchinson differently, he's been used in much more favorable situations which can definitely improve performance and the amount of help he's getting from the guys in front of him

That's 1.5 years in the future, a lot can change in that time

Hutchinson is like most pure backups
Will do a job in a pinch but you wouldn't want to rely on him long term

It is what it is

he did, but what does that have to do with his own trash opinions he can’t help but entertain with, which is what the people you’re replying to were discussing.

It's not strange at all, maybe if I didn't use the dash between the two words, it would be but by using the dash, it makes it one word which is what Hutchinsons title is.

You're asking me if I feel comfortable about our new starter in 1.5 years if Andersen doesn't resign, that's an entirely different discussion; my response to you was with regards to you waiting for Keefe to solve the Goalie back-up issue for this season.

I agree, just show up when needed, flash some leather like he did last night and the boys will take care of the rest.

Sheldon doing circles around Babcock right now. To do this on the fly is impressive. The real test will be playoffs but all signs point towards a first round win. We shall see.
I am sure Dubas has finally relaxed as the pressure has calmed down on him for now.

How is a half naked picture of a kid tied up "taken out of context", espically given it was in the hands of a sex offender? Better yet why would Keefe defend such vile behaviour?

I think we should stay out of things we don't know about. From all accounts Keefe wasn't guilty in any of this and has cut contact with everyone involved. In a lengthy trial where he's asked to speak probabilities suggest he's going to misspeak every once in a while and have his own words taken out of context. The more you talk/do something the greater the odds that a mistake will occur in how you execute a skill or say something. Don't hate the guy until he gives you reason to. By all accounts he's a great guy. You have to understand the poster you are replying to along with a few others intentionally offer the most provocative take not necessarily because that's what he genuinely believes but because of its inherently provocative nature. I sometimes say provocative things too like Matthews not having distanced himself enough from MacKinnon or Eichel to be deemed clearly better than them but I only do it because I genuinely like the rest of the league feel that way and don't want to get sucked into delusional echo chambers. Some people say provocative things with the sole intent of being provocative though.

what was the context? I'm guessing it was hazing and not molesting, Frost is a weird guy, but not sure that it is fair to hold this stuff totally against Keefe. Have to assume Keefe didn't lie in court.

edit- Just read the story. changed my opinion. Not sure why anyone would want to keep a weirdo like Frost in their life once they were an adult. Hazing goes on all over in tons of different sports and is pretty common behaviour for kids that age in that setting, but adults/coaches participating is really, really effed up.
