Watching Weber, along with Petry, Eddie and Chariot play big boy hockey in our own end and grind almost every opponent into submission in the SCF run (before they too got worn down) is an immortal memory.

You mean leak chances like crazy and get bailed out by Price? Lol. Weber wasn't bad but he wasn't playing his usual quality even in the POs.
I feel like there is a lot of revisionist history.
The way Weber played in that run was not at all the way he played during his tenure here. He was entirely disappointing and unmemorable. Hell even in that run he looked awful in the leafs series.

He wasn’t all that great in any playoff games as far as I remember. That’s okay though he was pretty banged up in that final run. He did what he could.

I'd say he was clearly the best D we had but he was probably closer to 2nd pair than Shea Weber.

He really gutted it out but yes, Weber wasn't the same in that final year. Defensively it was more subtle, but it was visible from an offensive standpoint.
I imagine it was quite inspirational for the club to see what price and weber were putting themselves through just to get ready for each game, not to mention the added mental component of the whole covid ordeal.
The way they huddled around an emotional Weber after the final buzzer, you knew something was up.

Zero Norris trophies and one of the most overrated players in league history. Was a very good player, for sure, but the stories told about this guy like he’s some sort of legend are comical to me. I’d take a prime Markov any day.

I was a big markov fan, but since you are using norris trophies as a metric in your post, I will say Weber was alot closer than markov.
He lost a couple close norris races, and one of them was closest race of all time where he barely got beat out by lidstrom.
He was a lock to play on the best on best Canadian teams among guys like Keith and doughty as well.
I don't use overrated and underrated terms because everyone is basing the benchmark on their own perceptions, but it should not be a controversial take to say thay he was an excellent dman in his era.

Weber's a legit HOFer, that's why he's going in first ballot. Maybe a little overrated in the sense that he wasn't really mobile or great with puck control. But he did some things very, very well. That shot lands him in elite company for goals by a blueliner. And he was really good at clearing the crease. Strong in his own zone without the puck. 5 times top five in Norris and runner up twice. 16th all time in goals. No brainer.
I've spoken about Markov before, not a HOFer. Hall of the very good. Funny but he's the opposite coin of Weber. Everything Weber was excellent at Markov wasn't great. But Markov had vision like few bluelieners and his passing was spectacular. He wasn't a rushing blueliner either but great vision. Much better than Weber in that respect.
Sidenote: Price should go in next year but unfortunately it's a really crowded field. Chara, Getzlaff, Thornton, Price and Keith. Rask is also eligible. Only four get in. Really tough year... he may have to wait. Getzlaf is probably his best shot. Price has better Hart placements but a shorter career. Getlaf has a cup... only three seasons in top ten points.

I don’t think Markov should be in either, but I think a prime markov impacts the ice in more ways than Weber and has a greater impact on a teams results.

Carey Price did almost everything. Weber was rather pedestrian in his final season with the Habs.

I'd take Weber over pretty much any Canadien the past 30 years aside from Price.
Can't even imagine how much better the Habs would have been with a prime Weber, a Weber that wasn't broken.
Such a shame he and Price had Bergevin as a GM who, as everyone knows was rather in ept.

Habs were dead meat in Toronto, before Weber stood up and called that meeting before Game 5. Habs were down 3-1. That's with your immortal Carry Price. Wasn't Price that did it. It was great leadership.
Nobody on here gave us a chance until then.
