I don't see the issue, Vegas isn't breaking any rules.
Maybe, maybe not. If they have a guy on LTIR that isn't actually injured, they'd be breaking the rules. I think it's fair to assume guys are actually hurt, but hard to not wonder if some could come back a lot sooner than they do simply because of the LTIR thing. Pretty hard to conclude on that though.

At the same time they may also come back too soon. As much shit as Mark Stone gets he was pretty much a completely liability vs Dallas last playoffs. He needed more time IMO not less. But it's playoffs.

Nill needs to be more like Vegas. With Heiskanen's injury, Dallas is wanting to get him back for the last two games of the year.

It's great to be honest and all, but pull a Vegas and use that cap space!

Hopefully Theodore is ok, I do like him, but seriously going to laugh if he's ready to go game 1 lol

Sucks in many ways, hurts me in my hockey pool especially. I'm up 30 points on 2nd place and it's $1000 if I can hold it off till the end. Probably lose by a point now final day of the regular season

So what? It's a tool EVERY team can use some are just to cowardly to do it.
No, I think you can replace "Are too cowardly" with "Have too much integrity".

Vegas and Tampa fans: We obviously need a cap limit, otherwise other richer teams could just spend more money and their roster and it would be unfair! Teams should all be spending up to the same limit for parity, otherwise teams that spend more have an unfair advantage over us

Also Vegas and Tampa fans: It's not cheating if we abuse LTIR to spend above the cap limit and more than the rest of the league. All we're doing is spending more money on our roster, it's within the rules!

Just fix it already, it isn't rocket science. So many ways to do it.

1) A player that ends the regular season on LTIR cannot be activated in the playoffs. You expect him back in the playoffs ? Cool, don't go adding another 10M (or whatever his cap hit is) worth of player(s) and then re-activate the "injured player"

You're not expecting him back for playoffs ? Cool you get the cap relief to bolster the roster and spend up to the cap limit just like everyone else.

2) LTIR with limit vs season ending LTIR. Players put on LTIR must remain out of the lineup a minimum of 90 days, maximum of 150 days. If his time on LTIR exceeds 150 days, he is put on season ending LTIR and ineligible to return at any point.

3) Add a luxury tax with a soft cap. The teams that spend over the cap, pay a luxury tax, which is then evenly distributed among say the bottom 5-10 revenue generating teams. Similar to what the NBA does. LTIR players must be activated be before the season ends, if that pushes you over the cap, pay a luxury tax.

4) Re-activation window. If it's in the regular season, something like a 1 week window. Player must be activated 7 days before being eligible to play/practice. If it's in the playoffs, make it a 2-3 week window.

But honestly keep it simple, you finish the season on LTIR, you are ineligible to play in the playoffs. You expect to play in the playoffs ? Ok get activated and cap compliant by game 82. With the expected increases in the cap, this can easily be implemented. If the cap goes up say 5M this year, implement the rule and GMs should manage their cap properly in case of injury. Don't spend 100% up to the cap, give yourself like 5% to breathe.
#1 is briliant, you would think Bettman and his cronies could figure this out...Inexcusable that you run the NHL and cannot figure this out.

Well we have the answer to our YEARLY question. Who will the Knights put on the LTIR to be able to add a good player

The oilers might do it this year and my guess is if they do it? You will see the rules changes. Kane may or may not be back. Last reports I read saw him ready with two weeks left in the season.

Knew it wouldn't be Stone because he has to actually prove himself if he wants to get on the Canadian Olympic team. Theodore and Karlsson are the answer. Hello Provorov and Schenn.

f*** Vegas.

Theodore wouldn't want to prove himself at this tournament to try to make the Canadian Olympic Team, just Stone?

And you think Vegas is going to trade for Provorov to be their 3rd pairing LD?

Genius level theorizing here. Vegas needs better quality haters.

I think there is more going on here. McCrimmon is the only GM doing this, and every year even.

All other 31 GMs are deciding to sit on their hands instead of exploiting this "loophole"? Fat chance.

At this point, you have to think that the VGK's medical team is compromised, or there is an institutional expectation for their players to take one for the team and exaggerate injuries.
All LTIR cases are independently reviewed by NHL doctors to verify their validity. If any teams medical staff was trying to cook the books they’d get caught. Recovery timelines are inexact so a few weeks give or take isn’t unheard of.

Blood pressure, respiratory rate, and pulse are all used to measure pain. Increasing pain almost always raises all three rates.
I honestly doubt the nhl goes to this level to check, I also high doubt the NHLPA would allow testing of "it hurts when you do this? Okay we need you to do that while we do our tests"

Stone is older. This is his chance. Theodore will get in, defense for Canada isn't that competitive. And the answer is yes. Win with defense.

f*** Vegas, I'll say it louder for the people at the back.

I doubt any fan would be complaining about the "morality" of doing stuff like this if their club ended up champs. It's just that Vegas does it with impunity that pisses them off when their own management don't.

before anyone asks "can another team challenge it"? They player can simply say he is not mentally ready quite yet and that would be that. Proving a player is ready or is tough to prove

Years ago I suggested that for a player to be eligible for the play off, he needs to be either on the NHL or AHL for the last game of the year and play.

The NHL wouldn't test that, they would just receive medical reports from doctors. Pain is just a clue for medical personnel anyway. The only reason to check for pain using vitals is because a patient cannot verbally communicate it (and rooting out drug seeking behavior).

It would be painfully obvious (heh) if there was nothing structurally wrong with Theodore and he was lying. I don't think a player would ever do that.

If you NEED to take advantage of a loophole like this, you weren't good at team building to begin with.
