Is everyone forgetting what he was like when he first came here or am I high on wombat shit?
And we all knew we would soon train him out of it.He scored like 5 points in 3 games when he first got here
When comparing to Skjei, Ghost is a much better ppqb.Ghost is a hell of a lot worse than Brady Skjei. He has some better attributes, but Skjei is much much better at playing defense. There's a reason one got $49M in free agency and the other got literally one fifth that amount.
Ghost looked great in his first game, and then I thought he was just pretty good. He seemed to adjust faster than most defensemen do in our system. He's a good skater with a good hockey IQ. Those to me are the most important attributes to being successful in Rod's system. I don't think he'll hit 57 points this year, but I think he'll also look better defensively than he did with the Red Wings. He is a very good fit for this team, and an excellent fit for the price.
Honestly the biggest thing we need next season is for Orlov to play like he did after we got Kuznetsov. We need him to play mean, play aggressive, but also play with strong defensive awareness. Walker and Ghost will get more attention because they are new, but Orlov is arguably the second most important cog on the D in 24-25 after Slavin.
So kill him in the off-season?This guy is okay I guess.
Agreed. He isn't going to score 4 goals every 5 games. If I had to guess a number, I'll guess he hits 22 goals, which would still be excellent for a d man.Who knew that being a good puck mover with a good shot while being not terrible at defense would be something the Canes could really use to our benefit?
Having his scoring come alive right from the bat on this stint is great, but I believe it happened as well last time before going cold, so I'm still cautious about how sustainable it is right now. Either way, I don't think he's going to make or break our defense, I'm still curious on how Walker is going to fit long term. Early returns seem to be good, so I am hopeful we got it right.
Oh yes, all of thisAgreed. He isn't going to score 4 goals every 5 games. If I had to guess a number, I'll guess he hits 22 goals, which would still be excellent for a d man.
I will say his movement and anticipation offensively, especially on the powerplay, is excellent. I love me some Brent Burns, but Brent doesn't have the same mobility and reads I think due to his age. Ghost is scoring some unsustainably lucky goals overall to get to 4G right now. But Ghost's reading of the play is sustainable, and he is going to rack up some points this year. I thought 57 points was unlikely from last year, but I think it's possible from his early showings so far. His give and go play with Necas on his goal last night was just beautiful to watch. Necas needs that high end, quick puck movement skill to be effective.
Suppose the rest of the league bought into the “he’s awful defensively and too small” tropes.honestly how the f*** did this guy only get $3.2M/yr???
All we need is a PP QB that can help get the puck to situations that require the PK to move out of position to close off an opportunity. When we have that happen, we have some really good passers who can find an open guy for a high danger shot. We thrive on causing chaos (sorry) in the offensive zone, which is what has made our PP and offensive zone attack so frustrating to watch in recent years, especially in the playoffs when the guys just find their spots on the ice and pass station to station not forcing the defense to react. As far as running a pp, Ghost is above average for the NHL. I don’t really care if he’s scoring goals or not. He’s a better playmaker than TDA was. He’s way more mobile than Dougie though Dougie is a very good shooter and sees the passing lanes to a similar level.
If the chemistry keeps developing the way it is then our pp1 could end up being the best it’s been during Rod.
