i would say he is better than berglund

the other 2 are arguable either way tbh

It is not arguable that Kadri is a better player than Stastny. Paul Stastny is a better hockey player than Kadri. Period.

You could make a reasonable argument Kadri is better than Lehtera, but I would not trade them straight up from a Blues perspective.

If Kadri had easier defensive responsibilities and better wingers (he's a better playmaker than scorer imo) then he could easily replicate or surpass Stastny's numbers (I'm an Avs fan first and I don't think Kadri will ever top Stastny's peak but we're talking about the next few years here).

I'm not sure why the Leafs would trade him for a pending UFA though or anything to suggest that Shattenkirk would re-sign in Toronto. Plus the Leafs already have Reilly/Gardiner so they need a Pietrangelo type (or Trouba) more than a Shattenkirk. Kadri could settle in nicely as the Leafs 2nd line C if Matthews develops into the no.1 (or they roll 3 lines if Nylander develops into a good 2C).

Stastny is debateable but he would be an upgrade on Lehtera and Bergie IMO

I'd argue at this point in their careers, Kadri has the upper hand on Stastny, or will have the upper hand very soon. Stastny is over 30 and trending downwards, Kadri is 26 and has some mileage left.

Kadri's ability to draw penalties shouldn't be overlooked in these discussions. Accounting for TOI, penalties drawn per 60, penalties taken per 60, STL's PP% and PK%, Kadri was worth +8.0 goals for the team vs Stastny's +0.37, Lehtera's -1.1, and Berglund's -0.87.

ur gonna have to pay a team to take on Kadri's cap hit. Even without that contract, kadri comes no where close to Shattenkirk and u think of +/- lol

You keep setting the bar higher with eachildren post.

Is hfboards the only hockey in your life? It must be because your opinions are always so wrong

Why not just wait for Shatty to become a UFA and sign him for free.

Blues can always trade him at the deadline to a contender if he wont re sign.

Shattenkirk

for

Kadri

with the addition of a (+/-) built around Shatty resigning.

Lol Kadri straight up for Shattenkirk if Shattenkirk signs long term, Over value Kadri much it would take Kadri++ to get Shattenkirk for 7 years @ $6.5 million per more then likely. And besides Shattenkirk wants to play in the States most likely home to the Rangers no way do i see Shatty signing long term with Toronto.

Honestly we're a few years away from contending so I can't see any reason why Shattenkirk would come here.

If the Rangers rumours are true, he'll end up there one way or another.

Just like how Vesey and Yandle signed with the Bruins and how Stamkos is the newest Maple Leaf?
I'm sure Shattenkirk would like to go back to New York. However, there is absolutely no evidence he won't sign in Toronto. The only city that is confirmed he wouldn't resign is Edmonton. That has nothing to do with the Leafs. I'm not applying he would play for the Leafs and resign there but I'm sick of people assuming they know him. Until factual evidence is there that he wouldn't sign in Toronto, you can't assume he wouldn't. Toronto isn't very far from New York and is essentially the Canadian version of New York.

As for the proposal itself, it isn't bad but it's not necessarily a great fit. Even with Matthews and Nylander down the middle, Toronto does need to shelter and insulate their youth. I don't see Kadri being moved until Matthews officially takes over the #1C role.

Which should be in about 1-2 months from now :yo:

Rather Callan Foote or Liljegren.

I believe the following poster did not understand what you meant...

This x1000000.
I wouldn't trade our 1st for Shatty, nevermind Kadri + 1st.

A1LeafNation was not talking about adding the 1st.

He was referring to the fact that he did not want the Leafs to get better (which they would do with a Kadri/Shattenkirk trade) in the hope of drafting either of these prospects.

Call that the Post Martin Gerber Syndrome...

Interesting because I quite like Lehtera's game. Nothing flashy but solid play and versatile enough to bounce up and down the lineup, combined with decent skills.

Lehtera isn't a horrible hockey player. But his stamina keeps him from playing more than 15 minutes a night and as the season goes on, he gets worse. After the 40-50 game mark he is barely noticeable. It doesn't help that he is slow as balls. While not useless on defense, he isn't a world beater, he also lacks any type of true scoring touch. Is he worth the 4.7M cap hit? Not really, but it isn't the worst contract in the world.

Lehtera blows, he has to play a sheltered role and his offensive production does not support it. His skating and stamina are awful and a big reason why he doesn't last a full season with effective play.

Maybe I missed it, but what does St Louis need?

A top 6 center, preferably someone who can skate and play at a fast tempo. A prospect projected to become that guy would also be ideal.

Next best would be a forward to add to the core who is young, fast.

Last option would be LHD, but I really don't think that works out well unless Bouwmeester is departing (at the expansion draft?).

I don't see how Toronto is a good trade partner, nor why they would target Shattenkirk. Kadri may be a decent addition to the Blues, but there are better targets. If I were Toronto, I'd much rather deal Kadri for futures and grow the rebuild.

Leafs fan - I'd take this in a heartbeat, no questions asked. Pretty brutal value for the Blues, even with Shattenkirk unsigned.
