makes you wonder if there are some off ice issues here. his q.o. is barely above the league min contract

edit: nm hes arbitration eligible, that's probably why.

By all accounts I am aware of he is a good person that works hard, just doesn’t have the skill level needed to succeed with his frame, or the willingness to sacrifice his body to make plays.

SJ wasted a player here. Just sign him and move on. Instead they are going to lose him to another team who will overpaid. They probably get 2nd or 3rd rounder return.

They only gave up a 5th (in 2026) and an AHL forward to get him in the first place. I don't think the market for Addison suddenly got any better. There's going to be a lot of 2018 / 2019 draftees who are gonna get cut loose or put on waivers by opening night.

I think if he gets another chance with the right team he'll succeed in the best ways.

Might be attitude related. But would love to give him a shot on the Jets.

What team would give up a 2nd or 3rd rounder for an offensive defenseman who can't score?

Sharks fans see Shak coming up or would someone like Thrun take that PP QB role? (think Shak got some time in his 3 games up?).

Could see him be a one-dimensional AHLer or bottom-pair sheltered PP QB on some other team.

Addison was tried on the PP and was completely useless.

We don’t currently have an actually good #1PPQB in the org. It’s not Mukh and it’s not Thrun, that I can tell you. We actually had the most success with the ridiculous five-forward PP1 unit.

He scored 6 PP points in 60 games averaging over 2 minutes on the PP last year.

He couldn't be a functional PP QB on the 23-24 Sharks - he certainly can't be one on a functional team, sheltered or not. The idea that he is some offensive wiz on the PP has sprouted from the idea that he is bad at everything else, so he must be good at that. Except he's not good at that either.

The hope is for Shak to come up but he has to fair well in Training Camp. Thrun was teased some PP QB time last Training Camp but it was nothing more than that, hence the Addison acquisition. I don't think the coaching staff will give Thrun a shot anymore.

As for Addison, he's not good at all at defending. He tries, but he's muscled off very easily. A sheltered bottom-pair QB would work for him. Or move him to wing or something.

They might not give him one just to re-sign him at a lower than his QO

Sounds like they're moving on. They have six D signed on NHL deals plus Thrun/Emberson as RFAs. Mix in Mukhamadullin and potentially another addition and Addison gets squeezed out.

They bought low and took a flyer on Addison, didn't work out.

Once again, demonstrating the lack of "value" in these smallish offensive D who struggle physically and struggle to defend, that everyone gets so excited about "stealing" in the draft. If they're not good enough to play Top-4 minutes and Quarterback a good Powerplay...they have very little utility to NHL coaches at all.

Someone will probably give him a minimal sort of two-way deal to stash on their farm team as a 9th or 10th D. Can probably eek out a few more NHL games at some point if he's willing to stick around like that for a few more years. But definitely approaching that point where Europe beckons. Just a matter of how long he puts it off, or if he wants to be an AHL journeyman/lifer.
