Nolan explanation makes sense. Thanks for quick responses.

Gomez originally wore 23 with New Jersey, but had to change it over the years due to it being taken/retired/etc. I don't think anyone in SJ will ever wear 11 since Owen Nolan left, whether it's officially "retired" or not.

There's this dude called Owen Nolan who once played for the Sharks and I think he was kinda important to this organization, the fans, and everything about hockey in the Bay Area. Nolan still tweets the Sharks' players, mascot, beat writer, and public faces, lives in he Bay Area and is friends with current Sharks who weren't even in the NHL when Owen was a Shark, had his retirement ceremony here, and publicly roots for Bay Area sports teams. He wore #11, FYI.

EDIT: I agree with the above. Even if #11 is never officially retired, no scrubs is ever going to wear it.

Haha, Gomez isn't wearing #11 because of Owen Nolan...? So all those years Marcel Goc was disrespecting Nolan by supporting #11, no one in the organization told him otherwise...you know considering how influential Nolan was and all...?

Fetus' explanation makes a lot more sense. Some of Gomez's best years were with the Devils, back when he was wearing #23. Mix that with Robinson being a constant at both New Jersey and San Jose, he's probably looking to revive that spark.

Honestly the Owen Nolan reason makes no sense whatsoever. He was a great player and huge fan favorite, but to assume that his number is somehow unofficially retired is silly.

Evaluation of Scotty Go so far? He is able to create scoring chances? Does he still play on the PP? Where does he fits in your lineup(Handzus or Gomez for 3rd center?) and were do you see him in a near futur? Good or bad signature considering he cost 1M?

Good depth move but even the legend of Gomez cant break this teams funk. Pretty much shows up and tries to make moves but like the rest of this team they are baffled on how to put together scoring chances. Hes been floating between lines. Shows some chemistry but is still fairly new here so. Maybe gets an extension for depth purposes only.

When Gomez scores a goal I'll celebrate like we won the cup. Empty netter wont count.

He's hardly had a chance to make an impact, but has also not made much of an impact with the chances he has had. He doesn't quite fit with the team as it is currently made up and how the lower lines are configured. I would like to see him centering the 3rd line between wingels and sheppard for a while, that would be a fair chance for him to do something.

By eye he clearly has a lot of talent.

As Objectively as I can possibly be:
Gomez has underwhelmed even with lowered expectations. If he was brought in to add to our bottom 6, and improve the 2nd PP unit, he has not been able to do any of that. To be fair, the Sharks as a whole have been playing terribly after their initial win streak and Gomez has often been saddled with pretty crappy line mates or been scratched. Last game we finally got to see him play with some better line mates on the 2nd line (at least for a bit of the game) but even then he was not able to contribute anything noticeable. Perhaps with Clowe out for the next game he gets another shot and can make something happen.

His time on the 2nd PP unit has also amounted to nothing, and that unit as a whole has been a black hole of suck with or without him. Other than the Sharks top line, Couture, and Boyle nobody on the team has contributed much in the way of offense, and while nobody could blame Gomez for all of that, he certainly hasn't been part of the solution.

Hopefully he can contribute more over the rest of the season, but so far he has been mostly invisible when he has played.

When Gomez plays with skilled linemates he's 'as advertised'. Good through the neutral zone and on zone entries, good possession player and does a decent job as a playmaker. However, he hasn't played a whole lot with skilled players - he's spent about equal time in the bottom 6 (with not great linemates), mostly on the 4th line, where he's been horrible along with everyone else who's played on the 4th line.

The PP hasn't been good with or without him for about 7 or 8 games now, but he hasn't done much there either.

There shouldn't be any complaints about him at all considering his contract.

How the hell has he impressed people? He got to play with two first liners last night and his line finished the night without recording a single scoring chance for. He's been ****.

Dude has no puck skills. He can pass but he'll lose the puck before he gets the opportunity to make a pass.
