Easily the correct move, he was more than struggling between brief flashes of skill. More ice time and confidence building for him. Whoever replaces him will help the team succeed more. We have depth now, apparently.

I hope this doesn't steer Hertl away from the Sharks, especially if the tank is back on
Tbh I don’t know right now if Eklund moves the needle that much in regards to how good this team is right now. This shouldn’t be something that changes Hertl’s mind.

If anything, just seeing Eklund for these nine games could give Hertl some optimism and reason to stay--now he knows the potential of this kid he could end up playing with through his next contract.

Like it or not this was the right move. He was good for the 9 games and gave us a glimpse of what he can do but he wasn't setting the NHL on fire.

Bummed, but I get it. You could see flashes of brilliance but also long stretches of minimal impact at evens...probably could have still kept him as a huge asset on the powerplay (and hoped he'd get better at evens), but it is what it is.

I'm all for the bigger picture and want what's best for his development, so not surprised he's not staying with the big club. I am surprised he's not going to spend the year in the AHL though, mainly to get used to the smaller ice and the org could keep a very close eye on him. That said, I have no idea how the AHL compares to the SHL in terms of play, I'm just not sure if there's much more he can learn in the SHL.

Did I hear him wrong or did he say he wasn't sure if he was going back to Sweden?
I dont know because he deflected the later question about whether he was given a choice between Sweden or the AHL, i feel like he just didnt want to talk about it

Id rather some random coach in Sweden develop him than Sommer

Wait what? Meier or Merk or Dahlen hasn't shown flashes?

Definitely not, have you not been watching?

Some of the passes Eklund has made have been ridiculous, I can think of a dozen incidents where he created plays and the after the pass the Sharks couldn't finish

Seriously, hopefully YouTube has highlights soon, but twitter will show you a ton if you look. (Or old GDTs)

No idea why you're taking me being disappointed that Eklund is leaving so personal, he's an exciting talent that has shown flashes of greatness that made him a top 10 pick to begin with.

**Edit

No idea why you included Meier with the rookies or "young guys".. he's been around a few years and not even close to having an ELC

I sense an agenda or somebody who just wants to pick an argument

Am I missing something here? When Sheng asked Eklund if he was possibly going to the Cuda, he said hes not sure if hes even going back to Sweden yet. Is this a for sure thing? I wonder if he or his agent will put up a fight on this. That could spell a mess if so. Dahlen with Vancouver vibes?. I don't even wanna speak that into existence but that answer and his overall demeanor just seems like a guy who DOES NOT want to go back to the SHL. Maybe he feels like he's already developed past the SHL comp and the next step is the big leagues. Id agree.
