Did you watch Sundin in his prime? They're nothing alike. Play style or size. Sundin was more similar to a guy like Hertl. Man among boys. Eklund is more like a waterbug out there with his cut backs and creative plays.

He's always reminded me of Paul Kariya a little. But man is he a master at manipulating the corners. Matt Duchene vibes there.

Guys? Tell me about this kid. How good is he? How good can he be?

He's a good skater and very good passer with excellent hockey IQ and ability to create space, avoid checks, etc.

I think he's going to peak as an excellent playmaker who approaches 80 points a season, and I think he's going to rapidly settle in as a legitimate top-six player.

He is alright. He hasn't scored any goals yet. These are the type of players the Sharks typically drafted and keep for a long time. So don't even think of having him on your team.:P

Im strictly asking for fantasy purposes. I’m hoping to hear he’s going to score 100pts for the next 20 seasons.

To be honest, he has holes in his game. He's not a perfect player right now. He's still very much adjusting to NHL pace and spacing (often times I'll notice he's out of position), and he often is kind of just observing the game around him and calculating his next move, rather than moving his feet. I think he is getting better every shift though, and that's kind of been the theme ever since he got onto NHL ice in August. I do see lots of playmaking skill, lots of individual puck skills, decent speed but could be better, and a weak but smart shot. I think what the Sharks are doing with him now, putting him with Hertl is fast-tracking his development, and I hope it continues. He's been dynamite on the PP too.

For fantasy purposes he's on what is arguably the top power play unit already, and he's stapled to Tomas Hertl right now. He's not going to rack up many hits or PIMs, but he's going to score points, especially on the power play. He's more of a playmaker than a scorer, but he's in a good position to succeed.

Agreed on all of this. He IS like a little cyborg though, he seems to be learning and getting better every minute of every game. Eventually, he probably tops out as the best hockey player in the universe until he invariably implodes on himself and destroys all life.

For the ones who play fanduel he is a bargain right now. His salary is where you would find 4th liners who play 5-8 minutes a game. And since the stradegy is to pick up the entire line, Balcers is also a bargain.

Oh baby, this is what I was waiting for.

I am in a couple of leagues, the first one I wanted Eklund and ended up getting McTavish. I can get Eklund in another one so I’m very encouraged with the comments here.

Cheers guys!

I would take him as a rookie for sure. Hes not gonna be Shane Wright but I think hes gonna rack up the assists

So, I imagine he’s staying up the entire year, right? We’re burning that ELC to the ground? I’m a little worried about his play still (3 games in etc etc) but I also think it would really ruin the good vibes if he was sent down. Not to mention the fact that he’s still by far the best option on that line (not counting He Who Shall Not Be Named).

I kinda think he's going back. I think it'll be an indicator if they plan to bring Kane back. If they send him back to Sweden, we can expect Kane back. Keeping him though it could go either way. E5 has PP points only and that line hasn't been all that good frankly. I think they're getting caved as far as the advanced stats go. The Couture and Bonino and even the Jasper line have been more noticeable IMO. We'll have to see if E5 has a similar learning curve to camp and preseason. He may put it together enough by the 9th game that they keep him up but right now I'm not sure I'm seeing enough especially 5 on 5 to warrant burning a year of ELC.

I’m not sure replacing the rookie everyone loves with Kane would be the best move for this team. I’m guessing Eklund stays and Kane… I’d say there’s a 25% chance he’s back.

I think he’s making the power play work, even if he’s not scoring 5v5 yet. There’s not a chance they break that up if the power play continues to work and he’s racking up points on it.

Yep our powerplay is 3rd I'm pretty sure right now, which is very nice after how bad it has been.
We actually have the best combined special teams in the league, mostly cause our PK is 100% lol

Except he's not necessarily the thing making it work. He's good but EK65 is the primary assist guy so far and the others are playing the new system better.

Yeah I'm pretty skeptical they bring Kane back too and I'm good to wait the 9 games to give Ek the chance to improve but right at this moment I would send him back. No way should a line with Hertl be getting caved the way it is. He needs help and if the team wants to make the playoffs, they're going to need better out of that line. Also it frankly terrifies me every time another player actually catches him and hits him.

He goes to the AHL or he stays. I dont think he steps foot overseas again
That's definitely a possibility. I'm not opposed to that option. Good stepping stone to maybe being called back up after the olympic break.
