Prospect Info: Sharks Prospect Info & Discussion Megathread XXI: "New, improved, and wayyyy too much info" Edition

Sam Dickinson to me is an easy call -- a big, fast, smart defender who does literally everything well. His floor is so high, I don't see any way of him not becoming at least an effective 3rd pairing NHLer and his ceiling is as a top pairing all-situations stud.

Chernyshov would be next for me, guys with elite compete levels almost always have better development curves, and his combination of size/physicality, speed and hands is actually quite rare. At the very least he'll be a stud 3rd liner, but it's more likely he's a force in the San Jose top 6 for years to come.

#3 to me would be very close between Mukhamadullin (I'm not sure if we consider him an NHLer after just a handful of games) and Musty -- another terrific competitor with the puck talent to play a top 6 role but the mentality to also succeed in a bottom 6.

Thanks for the insights! Which less heralded prospect do you think will have a long NHL career. Thinking about guys drafted outside the top two rounds including, but not limited to: Misskey, Roberts, Pohlkamp, Cardwell, Cagnoni, Rimashevsky, Graf, Kirsch, Wetsch, Gushchin, Svoboda, etc.

I'd put Gushchin at the top of the upside of that group, but as far as a long career I'd say Wetsch because I feel his game and body really translate well to a bottom 6 role.

A date worth considering: this Friday is the OHL trade deadline. There's a lot of noise that Musty won't be dealt. What a disaster for Sudbury, garbage org top to bottom.

There's a lot of noise around Saginaw as well. They sold Joey Willis for an absolute bounty of picks, so it's hard to say if they're "sellers" or just standing pat and happened to get a ridiculously good offer that they couldn't refuse. I know there's been a rumor that Michael Misa put in a trade request and is threatening to go to the NCAA next season. They also have a huge asset in Parekh, who will almost certainly be back in the OHL next season. I'm monitoring this situation for the Chernyshov implications, but it's also just very interesting. An insane number of blockbuster trades have gone down in the CHL in the last few days.

I just feel bad for musty at this point but it feels self inflicted
Certainly, he could have handled things better. The scuttle is that he supposedly didn't request a trade until he was sent back to Sudbury (as opposed to letting them know over the summer, which would theoretically have given Sudbury more time to facilitate a move before the season), but at the same time, Sudbury has had plenty of time to make a move and they haven't. Rumor is they set the price ridiculously high, which is essentially a stall tactic to keep Musty. CHL trade requests are typically handled quickly and quietly, so this basically is Sudbury refusing to trade him out of spite.

I can acknowledge that Musty could have handled the situation better, he probably shouldn't have sat out. But I put much more blame on the professional sports organization that has treated a teenager like a hostage.

Saginaw moved a couple forwards yesterday as the OHL trade deadline creeps up. So either they know Chernyshov is just about ready to go or their about to play 3 games this week with 11 F's. Either way I think we're very close to Chernyshov suiting up.
Very excited to see him play in the O.

Wish Musty was playing right now.

Dickinson, Haltunnen, Chernyshov, Musty, plus watching potential draft picks like Schaefer, Martone, and Misa have made the OHL very fun to follow for Sharks fans.

It was pretty clear that the Sharks weren’t pleased with how Sudbury played and thought Musty wasn’t growing there. Musty was obviously upset he didn’t make the team and was likely like, fine, then I want to play on a team that gets me prepared to make the Sharks…

He shouldn’t have sat home and waited for a trade but Sudbury sucks in this situation too. Ultimately, it was a guy trying to make the best move for his career. He’s still a kid, though.
