Multiple reasons. A history of concussions and a shoulder injury. A poor fit for the Wilds system.
And the sharks made a sweet offer of Seto+coyle+1st.

Seto was a three time 20 goal scorer (and 31 goal scorer) at age 24. Coyle was a solid 1st rounder who looked like a surefire NHLer, and the 1st is a first.

In other words, the sharks traded 2 1st rounders and a solid 24 year old 30 goal scorer (and 3x20 goal scorer) who was an 8th overall pick. Thats a pretty sweet haul for minny...

(Another genius DW special to land a franchise Dman.)

Yes, the Sharks did pay( at the time of the trade) a hefty price

Because he wasn't going to re-sign with them. That's a known fact.
Exactly, and the Rangers probably won't be able to afford Miller's next contract either. Them prioritizing the best goalie in the league and a 1st overall pick over Miller doesn't mean he sucks.

There's a difference between trading a guy because he's going to walk in a year and trading a guy because you don't like him enough to make room for him. Burns was the former, Miller would be the latter.

If I was MG I would try adding players every other way first... before betting on free agency. He's done a fine job at it for now. It's very hard for SJ to get good free agents and I don't think that changes for couple of years. Get underperforming but potential talent through trades and waiver wire, after that try your luck in FA.

Toffoli was a good FA signing, but I don't he signs here if he was 5-6 years younger.

Patience is key, best case scenario we get our young players relatively cheap for a long time and help build a clear window for competition.

Maybe we'll be able to "send" Dickinson (and hypothetically Schaefer) to the NCAA for a season.
Sam cannot head to NCAA because he is signed to NHL contract.

There are unanswered CBA questions on how long you retain a player's right if they go from college track to CHL or CHL to college. CHL drafted player's rights are held two years, college 4.

That has not been addressed between NHLPA and NHL and made part of CBA. (Nor NHL-CHL agreement. )

Which is why I wanted to prioritize developing Celebrini and Smith over everything else because the sooner they realize their potential, the sooner free agents will want to come here.

Free agents didn't really want to come here in our heyday -- I don't know that our saviors will change that. One more year of insane draft capital accumulation, a few more years of clawing and scratching our way to a better roster while the kids grow up, and then we're gonna have to start making trades to fill out pieces outside the core. I hope I'm wrong.

Sudbury is kicking the crap out of Windsor, Musty has five primary points so far through two periods. Pretty crazy since Sudbury is a total shitshow and had just one player on pace for a PPG before this game.

Three assists so far from Dicky, overall quite solid game.

Fourth assist for Sam. Nice allyoop pass over the neutral zone at the end of the game.

No real high-skill plays tonight but you can see how he piles up points by simply making the right play in his bucket of minutes. One of his points, he basically got an assist off of a nice poke-check to defend a zone entry on the PK. Good stuff.

I do think the Sharks were aware of Seto's off ice issues that made him expendable too
Agreed, I think Seto was almost a throw-in in the Burns trade. Between his off-ice issues and the fact that he was basically a product for Thornton, I doubt he carried much real value.
