Hot. Dog.

I’m thinking Schaefer needs to wear that helmet off the ice too cause, and this may come as a surprise to him, there are plenty of more decidedly solid, material, and inanimate objects outside the rink that he might be taking for granted as well…

On a plus side for the Sharks drafting him: he already knows how to drive an SUV in Milpitas.
I truly love how chaotic these posts are and how unpredictable their appearances are. Please continue your excellent work.

Classic Canadian team building for roles instead of talent. They will still probably pull a silver or bronze but I have no idea why they make this mistake every year.
Maybe because they've won 4 of the last 7 gold medals in spite of these supposed "mistakes"? Contrary to what hockey geniuses like Scott Wheeler and the Elite Prospects experts believe there is more to building a team for a short tournament than CHL production or draft pedigree.

Tsn panel is also questioning some of the selections or lack of.

Also doesn't help when Celebrini can't come help Canada because he's stylin' and profilin' in the NHL. Can you imagine if the Sharks gave him a furlough to the WJCs this year?

It does. And make no mistake, even as a Canadian angry with this team's management for so badly screwing the process up, watching the Latvians pull off that upset was amazing.

But it's just kind of another aspect of hockey culture that is broken. It's 20-freaking-25 almost and yet we still have old-heads stuck in the 1970s thinking that you have to build a team the same way they always have, playing the same game that Canada always has for things to work out.

Canada crushed teams before because the talent gap was big enough to overcome the crappy roster construction. That gap has shrunk and now they can't coast on the knowledge that their grindy 4th line players are better than most B and C nations' 1st liners and let that paper over their mistakes.

It also doesn't help that Canada has been in a goaltending-production funk for what seems like nearly 20 years so whenever they bring in a netminder who can't just single-handedly steal games for them they all go "See? see!?!?! We have to have 4th line grinders and a 3rd pairing shutdown duo or we might give up 4 goals against Slovakia!"

But, but...it worked against the Soviets in 1972!

Was reading earlier that it's apparently a broken collarbone for Schaefer. He's obviously for sure done for the tournament but I think the overall recovery time I saw quoted was like 3-4 months.
Probably 2-3 months of true rehab before he plays again but a year until full strength and stability returns.

Well, time to tell other teams to put him on their Do Not Draft list for round 1. Wouldn't want them to waste their pick on a guy who won't be 100% until partway through next season.

Then just get Greir to snag Misa with the 1st, Schaefer with the 2nd. Mission accomplished.

During one of the Canada games there was some discussion about Ethan Gauthier and that he's the son of former NHL Denis Gauthier. But more than that, Denis' uncles were 80s-90s pro wrestlers The Fabulous Rougeaus. Or more famously, Jacques Rougueau was The Mountie in WWF (at least until the RCMP sued for trademark infringement and forced them to stop using the name and the iconic jacket/hat combo from mountie dress uniforms.)

4 out of 7 is not good for a country who's talent pool is so far ahead of any other country.

Jacques also punched out Dynamite Kid's teeth in retaliation for his bullying and then became one half of the tag team Champs, the Quebecers with their hilarious "were not the mounties" theme wearing the same uniforms lol

Big opportunity for Dickinson to rise to the occasion with Schaefer injured tonight vs Germany! He has been promoted to the second pairing with Bonk and is now the PP1 QB

Odd that Akey is out. I thought he and Dick worked well together.

It's wild that Jacques former tag team partner in The Quebecers is still wrestling at the youthful age of 58.

As the resident Leonard hater, I heartily enjoyed Leonard giving up a goal to Finland because he was too stupid to realize that he was the one that pushed the puck into his own zone, making it not an off-sides. Good shit.

I'm sure he'll score a goal or two to make up for it, but I'm gonna enjoy being a hater while the hating is good.
