As in it's a very promising sign for Dickinson's potential. Molendyk is older and probably more offensively talented at this point but Canada already values Dickinson's deception and shot more.
I’m pretty sure they are just using him there moreso for the chemistry Dickinson has with Cowan and Bonk in the bumper spot. Team Canada is desperate as they obviously did not select the correct players this tournament….the results so far speak for themselves as they are struggling to score vs Latvia and now Germany.

Looks like the team was designed to win tight one goal games which is a curious choice considering the amount of talent Canada has to choose from. I can’t wait to see how the USA Canada game goes and how the rest of the tournament plays out. As a Canadian this team is extremely disappointing and many here feel the same way.

Yeah. They valued it so much that he was nowhere near special teams deployment before Schaefer's injury. This isn't them making a smart decision. This is them being backed into a corner and basically arriving at the right decision by happenstance (the need for a new PPQB and the Latvia game creating enough desperation that they decided to go with the London-heavy unit as a means of expediting chemistry growth.)

I don't disagree that it's a great platform for Dickinson to show his proper worth in a role that he is suited for, but let's not pretend this is the Canadian brain trust making an unbridled intelligent decision.

Here is a snippet from Wheeler and Pronman:

„Sam Dickinson, who has dominated the OHL by playing a freewheeling style — sometimes to a fault — looks like a timid shell of himself and like he has been told not to be himself.“
Team Canada's old head mentality is detrimental to actual hockey sometimes.

How did Sam Jose look?

I thought he looked OK on the PP goal, and had a nice keep-in on an attempted clear to bring the play that led to the goal. The rest of the time I honestly didn't see him a ton, but the few moments where I did notice him he didn't seem like he was playing the confident, swashbuckling style that he got a rep for this season in the OHL. Whether that's because he's still being asked to be a defensive defender away from the PP or he just hasn't broken free of the shackles will remain to be seen on New Year's Eve and beyond.

Quite frankly, that was how he played during preseason as well - like the coaches told him just to concentrate on playing solid defensive hockey and don't try to be too aggressive offensively. And that's fine for preseason if you feel like a guy needs to work harder on the defensive end. But when he gets to the NHL, they better let him use his skills.

Accurate. It's insane to take a guy like Sam and reign him in the way they have. Genuinely just let Sam be Sam at this point and deal with the consequences.

It's almost like Team Canada is trying to win a gold medal in a short single-elimination tournament, not showcase prospects at a an All-Star game.

Yesterday's game is exactly how I want Dickinson to play for the Sharks. I want him to be Rob Blake not Erik Karlsson.

Sam definitely doesn't look as confident and productive as expected. In the first period, he lost several episodes and lost his position. When playing pp, it is worth highlighting only the rack throw. Otherwise, he is not quite able to create scoring chances due to individual actions. What else I would note is the accuracy of the pass. At least his three passes were pretty bad for his teammates.
