What does the 2-2 score have to do with anything. This is as bad as Malkin (and Malkin-Rust) has looked all year. It's not about Galchenyuk deserving a chance. It's about leveraging Malkin. And, unfortunately, it's been clear for a while that one of those things has to give.

It means a great deal. If San Jose had made it 3-1 instead, it would have been more likely (and prudent) for Sully to switch it up and shorten the bench due to a bit of desperation. He still might, surely, for instance putting Horny up there being the hot hand and having experienced success with those guys before.

You know we agree on how to use Malkin in general. I just don't feel like concluding on this immediately... in less than a game or even in two games. Less so in a game where I think Geno hasn't looked like he has 'it' going at all, never mind if Chucky is around or not.

But again, I think you are probably right.

for what it's worth, that really seems like exactly the kind of issue that can be improved by more time together.

No, it can't. You can't 'teach' Galchenyuk to become smart. And, there's zero sign of anything approaching chemistry. With your typical good Geno line, you know pretty quickly, and you see flashes almost immediately.

I love ‘80s night....too bad this game blows and the Pens aren’t playing all that well because I enjoy not hearing Coldplay and Katy Perry or whatever for a change...

First time Sully went away from it . . . do you remember? First Islanders game. Put McCann there, and it was instant chemistry. But, yes, that took a multi goal deficit.
