Sharks at IIHF Worlds 2025

The moment Crosby announced he was going, this was inevitable. Mack’s desire to learn and the way Crosby is seen as a mentor by practically all of team Canada (including McDavid and Mackinnon) meant that he was always going to pull the 18 year old aside. Crosby also knows he can be a difference maker in his final (it is, right?) gold medal run.

So f***ing good for his development. Smith’s experience of playing up a lineup on a good team with NHL talent is also a pretty good experience, albeit not the same. Curious what line he ends up on. Must be an interesting dynamic for him and Warso. Smith is likely the slowest, worst defensive forward and currently the softest, but also among the top 6 most talented (Thompson, Cooley, Keller, Beniers, Smith, Garland/Gauthier).

Werenski, Beniers, Keller, and Cooley are a couple real good guys to have in that locker room.

When I said Bedard doesn’t show the leadership and drive to lead a team to a cup, this is part of what I was referring to. Celebrini has a drive to be better without the ego and will learn from anyone. Bedard wants to “start his offseason training early” which is no doubt code for leave me alone I want a break to sit on a beach somewhere.

I think people are being a little hard on Bedard. He’s a kid, he had a rough season, maybe for his mental health it was better to work one on one with coaches and mentors and teachers, get bigger, stronger, etc. than to go play more hockey?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take Mack any day over him, but I don’t think this decision is particularly egregious.
