Here's an AI rendering of him and Cagnoni as a 3rd pair.My data is a lot kinder.

IMO it’s a pretty solid pickup. Shout out to @Hodge for supplying evidence that he’s not some lumbering DFD who can’t skate.
He’s honestly a perfect partner for any one of Dickinson, Schaefer, or Cagnoni on the 3rd pair.

If you can’t acquire a 5th rounder between now and 2028…Until we get to 2028, and suddenly a 5th-round pick is what someone would pay for a depth deadline acquisition...
Weirdly want to see Muk-Desharnais and see the ice shrink in half with two behemoths on the back end. They can either run
Walman - Liljegren
Ferraro - Mukamadulin
Vlasic - Desharnais
Or
Walman - Liljegren
Ferraro - Desharnais
Mukamadulin - Thompson
I would prefer the first option.
Dude is a terrible skater. Not sure what you’re talking about.
Problem is at a certain point Grier can’t only be bringing in players that “can’t be worse than Burroughs and Benning”. He’s just shipping out junk and bringing in other junk.Cannot be worse than playing Kyle Burroughs last season, Matt Benning this season, etc. Plus he can PK and hit some folk. Let's hope he's not the best addition on the D this offseason.
2028 is so far away there's a slight chance one or both front offices completely forget about it by then...A 2028 5th? A complete non factor. Might as well be future considerations.
We need one who is right handed and leans defensive, especially for next year and after the trade deadline since it’s fairly likely we trade one of Ferraro/Walman.To be clear, Desharnais is an upgrade on Thompson and a fine bottom pairing defensemen, I just think we have enough bottom pairing defensemen. If Grier flips Thrun, then I'll change my tune.
Desharnais could be a perfect partner for Dickinson on the third pair next season. I'm sure that's a big reason for the trade. My data is a lot kinder.

To that, I say, then why do teams keep getting rid of him as soon as they can? A huge defensive RHD should be a valuable commodity, but he's been passed around for nothing multiples times in the last 8 months. We need one who is right handed and leans defensive, especially for next year and after the trade deadline since it’s fairly likely we trade one of Ferraro/Walman.
