Prospect Info: Shane Wright (Round 1, Pick #4, 2022 draft)

Not only that. There is no reasoning with folks like that because all they want to do is crap on Francis when we try to explain why certain choices were made.

I'm on the reddit hockey discord and htats all people do jsut trash the team cause of the expansion draft when i want to talk about the team that has nothing to do with the expansion draft and move on. I exit out of the conversation cuase it always leads to how stupid the team was at the expansion draft.

Can’t believe JVR/Voracek is making people lose their minds lol. I’d much rather not have those contracts right now.

what i also find annoying especially on hfboards is how much wright being disappointed that he wasn't 1OA is being used to trash the guy. Its seriously overblown. The guy has a right to be a bit disappointed after being label since he was 15 as the front runner for 1OA in 2022 entry draft only to drop to 4th. OHL folks lost a season due to the virus mess. I don't think he drops to us if the virus mess did not happen.

The media hype around the guy completely set this up to happen if he didn’t go 1OA. They made everybody, including him, believe it.

Lets go. Amazing pick. Beniers + Wright in back 2 back drafts is insanity. Another year at the bottom to grab an elite winger (Michkov) or a potential #1 dman and we’re set for 10+ years.

The question is, what happens next year? I know we just finished this draft but I don't see us being great next year yet either. It is still a development year and we could very well be in a lottery spot in the bottom 3 next year. If Bedard is available, do you even hesitate? I would say go BPA every time but that would create an interesting lineup scenario.
Bedard is supposed to be next tier McDavid/Matthews good but he still has to hit the finish line. Michkov is supposed to potentially be same class of uber prospect, Like when Ovy and Malkin came up the same year. A club could finish last, lose the lottery, and still get a potentially generational talent next season. Three high-end minute munching forwards is easy to balance. Both Draisaitl and McDavid are centers but they play together a lot. In a few years you might run into the Toronto problem where 2nd contracts can create a top heavy salary monster but that is a nice problem to have and correctable enough.

Not just them Vlad and domi too.
To be honest, of course they weren’t great last year but what do we expect when teams smarted up since last expansion draft? Also, knowing the outcome of the draft, I don’t think it would’ve changed anything! They didn’t finish last in the league but they still got the guy that all of us wanted at the beginning of last year! And more importantly, they killed the middle of the draft second through third fourth round this year. As crazy as it sounds, their farm system is light years ahead of Vegas right now who sold off everything and better hope to god the win this year or they’re screwed …and were just starting to build.

I am very happy for you guys! Seattle is my third favorite team being that 90% of my family lives in Seattle (and I hope to still move out there one day). But just following my cousin from the day she first was on the season ticket waiting list...

I am glad you have a player who is passionate and will play with a "chip on his shoulder." Reminds me a little about what Zadina said about "filling the other team's nets with goals." Of course, he is disappointed with not being #1 but he seems like he is happy to be in Seattle and I hope he and Beniers can lead a young core and have long successful NHL careers with the Krakken. And as others have said, it is not where you start but what happens afterwords.

And that Seth Jones guy seemed to do ok.

Congrats again and I am just super happy for Shane and the Krakken!

I am totally ok with this team just letting their young players develop. Winning culture is a thing but in the early years of an expansion team, you don't have that expectation - I think the Kraken need to capitalize on that. If they finish bottom 5 next year, I'm fine with that. As long as our players develop and progress.
Like to see the Kraken be patient with their picks and not bring players over to fill the AHL team. Let Nyman and Kokko play the full 4 years in Finland where they get to be front line players in time. Wright will make the Kraken out of camp and play 3rd line Center and then move up to 2nd with Beniers being the top Center. Both play the right way. both play the 200 foot game but maybe Beniers has more offense to his game. Both Wright and Beniers are going to be mainstays and great players for the Seattle Kraken

I agree and think patience will be what makes or breaks this team long term. I Francis can avoid rushing prospects, they could have something special here in a few years.

As for Beniers vs Wright, I fully expect Wright to be the offensive leader here, despite Beniers hot start last season. Wright is the more talented of the two and a better goal scorer. Beniers is a smart player that makes up for what he lacks in high end talent with a strong compete and effort. They are different, but I think they will compliment each other well.

Look at all the hilarious HF main board dummies crying about whether or not Wright was glaring at the habs table.

No, everyone's just gonna be laughing at Arizona as usual. They are just bad at drafting.

Pretty good chance the other 2 picks will be easier to justify, Saf will more than likely score a lot of goals and Nemec is a defender. Cooley before Wright makes no sense,
My theory is that Arizona already spent money on Cooley promo material and didn't want to waste that sunk cost.

Genuinely think Francis wouldn't have copped as much flack for the expansion draft if he hadn't paid the likes of Grubauer big deals. You could then have argued they weren't trying to win now, looking at the long term etc. Those deals felt like they thought they would be good which then implies you didn't have a clear plan going into it.

I do like the entry drafts so far. I don't like the Hakstol hire so far.

People love to say they want hockey culture to change and show personality but the moment anyone shows emotion the magnifying glass comes out.

Habs fans also want a built in excuse if Slaf fails. It won't be because the Canadiens selected the wrong player. It'll be Shane Wright's fault he didn't give better answers and made himself an unattractive pick. It'll be because he doesn't have the right attitude to make it in Montreal. Anything to deflect from the Canadiens own choice.

There is nothing bloody wrong with gru's contract. We have about ~23m in cap space.

Low key a Seattle fan now that they picked up Wright.

I finally have two teams to cheer for in the NHL ( the other being the Habs lol )

Do you have a particular connection to Wright? (Kingston, Burlington, just a fan, something else?) Just curious, but glad to hear you've gone (mostly) deep.
