So who still wants to send him back to the OHL?
Nobody wants to see him go back to the OHL. They want to see him play games not sit in the press box. Hopefully that is the plan going forward. Ideally that would be in the NHL Where that is however remains to be seen.

For me it goes AHL > OHL > NHL.

I prefer my prospects to be dominating. At the very least playing in top six roles. That is impossible in the NHL this year.

What you are really saying is that you want him to go back to the OHL because the AHL is not an option. I would like to see him get more than 6 minutes in a few NHL games while not going over the nine game limit then make that decision. I do concede that the current makeup of the NHL squad makes that difficult.

We are talking about a kid who tied McDavid's record as an exceptional status rookie in five less games.

Playing is best for sure!Hopefully this continues and Shaner takes it to the World Juniors then back to the Kraken

I'll say the same thing I said before the season.

Wright shouldn't be in the NHL. But if he's in the NHL, you have to put him on the powerplay. There's a lot of things he can't do right now, but scoring goals from a static position is not a problem for him.

Wennberg I think is playing halfwall on the second unit in the spot Wright just scored from. I've watched Wennberg for most of his career and I really like his game but he doesn't add anything on the PP. Very low scoring rate 5v4 this year. So I'd have no problem sliding Wright in there.

He's going to have to bump other players on the PP units for that to happen and that's not going to happen in the short term. Don't mess with stuff that isn't broken.

The top unit certainly isn't broken. The second one has some guys in those spots that haven't been scoring.

It's a bit funny, you're so eager to have Shane in the NHL but not so eager to have him put to his best use.

Wright isnt going to bump either wennberg or beniers to the 3rd line... Hes not ready for top 6 mins. Be realistic.

Hes too good for the ohl and would serve better for him to remain with the team.

Wright and his current skillset would be no where near the best player to ever play in the OHL, so saying he is too good for the league is ridiculous.

Kid has a great shot, but there are so many other aspects of his game that he could still improve on in juniors. If having a great shot were all that was required to play in the NHL, Daniel Sprong would be a generational talent :sarcasm:

Wright has not really shown that he belongs in the NHL yet, but he should be playing hockey games somewhere, so Juniors is better than sitting in the pressbox when he finally gets back to the team.

Pretty sure GMFrancis said Wright will not playing back in the OHL. Having said that perhaps if the leap to a NHL regular shift is not happening perhaps a Memorial Cup contending team say Ottawa 67's or Saginaw Spirit could make a play for Wright from Kingston. World Juniors is different and for a lot of games it is best against best in the 16-19 age category which is better than playing against most opponents in the OHL. Seeing Wright succeed in Coachella is a relief of sorts and a hint of great things to come from Wright. He'll get his shot and then he'll skate with it,pass, shoot and score while playing a 200 ft game. You can bet on it and take it to the bank. I agree the pressbox for Shane Wright is no place

Yeah. I am very interested to see how the Wright situation pans out. The stint at the Firebirds followed by World Juniors is pretty much certain. But that is only till January 5th.

Plus, I don't think Wright is AHL eligible for next season either right? Given his age.

Unless I am mistaken, I think he could play in the AHL on Jan 1st 2024.

I know everyone is raving about the goals he is scoring, but I watched three of his first four AHL games, and he has been somewhat questionable. Almost no possession time in any of the games, a lot of one touch blind pass attempts that become turnovers, and some pretty big issues with spacing reading the play.

His shot is so good, it is sometimes hard to remember that he is only 18.

At the end of the day, I just care whatever they do for Wright works out for us. I don't think he is NHL ready for sure. He is likely to benefit the best from regular AHL playing time but that can't happen for a while.

I agree.

With the playoffs looking like a real possibility this season, and the likelihood of missing out on the star-studded top end of this 2023 draft, having Wright develop into a star player to build around is becoming increasingly important, as he is hopefully going to be a foundation of the club for years to come.

They don't need to rush him, so I wouldn't mind them letting him hit his ceiling and develop his "A" offensive game at each of the lower leagues on his journey to becoming a full-time NHLer.

I thought it wasn't until the 2024-25 season. I hope I'm wrong.

The one touch blind pass is the Wright signature. I'm not sure he can adapt it to the pros or not. I expect he'll figure out the spacing but the coaches will probably make him cut out the blind passes.

The low possession time is a bit concerning. It was a big problem last year. He is really not comfortable enough to hold the puck and be patient and wait for something. He'll force weak plays rather than using his body to protect the puck. I can understand he isn't prepared to protect the puck at the pro level but he's not going to get very good at it if he never tries.
