That’s a tough contract for 4 1/2 more years at 34.

With the cap going up so much, having term will be changing to a positive over the next couple years. Trying to add free agents will be increasingly expensive.

Trading for players with term signed before this upcoming off-season may become much more desirable for teams.

Perron didn't win the Conn Smythe 2 years ago and isn't 1 season removed from 40+ goals.

Marchessault is aging much better and would easily be the trigger man on the PP2.
He didn’t win a Smyth, for sure, he put up 16 points in his Cup run at 30 and then put up 22 points in 21 playoff games in his 33 and 34 year old seasons.

You drop off a cliff, quickly, in your mid 30’s. Trading for a 5 year contract of a guy heading into his 35 year old season is bound to bite whomever in the ass.

Moving from PP1 to PP 2 turns you from a 60 point guy to a 45 point guy, and then taking into account he’s, extremely likely, going to be slowing down every year remaining on that contract, it’s going to make it difficult for any team.

Guessing rotator cuff... depending on severity he may not need an operation this year

I had an operation to repair mine.. along with a detached bicep ; I dealt with mine for a few years..
I’ve had 2 rotator cuffs, definitely couldn’t raise my arm like he did, after initially doing it. Cortisone shot helped though after one of them.

I've dislocated a shoulder playing hockey. It took me over a week to raise my arm to head level and it hurt to do that. What he did walking down the tunnel, geez I couldn't do that that easily for probably a month
