Yes I know we are going to suck. Can we maybe suck less than the previous years? Is making 30 wins too much to ask?
Ideally the sucking will be lessened, but I wouldn't want to put a number on a win target, not right now, certainly.

The problem is that it's going to be a tough offseason to convince players to come play for the Sharks barring big-time overpayments in money and/or years. Obviously Grier's going to get some guys, but we probably have to keep our expectations down in terms of the quality of these players. (The good thing is that it seems like Grier is for now willing to be patient and avoid any potentially problematic contracts.)

So then it comes down to trades. I don't know about you, but I'm not desperate enough for a certain level of improvement to want to see trades that are mostly for short-term gain. I'm guessing Grier isn't, either. That doesn't mean there won't be trades, but how impactful will those acquired players be? More than, say, Walman and Ceci?

But hey, even trades like those will help—and if there's also incremental improvement throughout the year from young guys like Celebrini, Smith, and Eklund, plus more NHL game time for Askarov and Mukhamadullin, we'll be better off for just that. And honestly, forget about the number of wins—this would be the biggest and most important win of the season if it happens.

If he can stay healthy for 70-75 games and play at the level he did for the couple months after the 4 nations break, he will have earned a bigger deal. He hasn't proven much yet. Biggest thing he needs to prove is that he can stay healthy. And then show that his play for 20-25 games last season wasn't just a flash in the pan. Talk about signing him to 5m+ per year for decent term is crazy.

3 years? $5-6M AAV? What? I’m as optimistic on Mukh as anyone else, but bro hasn’t survived half a season in the NHL yet. And while he certainly showed some promise, it’s not like he looked so electric that we should consider him a surefire top 4 guy.

And as far as the Thrun/Dellandrea contracts, I’m sure the team would have been fine with a second year for Mukh with similar AAV. At either price, in the absolute worst case they could bury him in the minors for a $300k cap penalty. For all intents and purposes that’s not a penalty.

I’d guess Mukh opted for a single year, with the intent of negotiating next year with the benefit of a full season of NHL play.
Just catching up on this chat, i should have been more clear. No i didnt say AAV. I meant 3 years total value 5-6million so 1.6-2.0 AAV for 3 years. I was corrected earlier that anything over 1 year brings him straight to arbitration. So this doesn't matter anyway. But if that wasnt the case i would absolutely give him that contract if it was an option. Cant really lose but no way was i on board for 5-6m aav. i meant total contract value to clarify.
