After watching the World Juniors, thinking he might be the most NHL ready of the young prospects if the Devils choose not to re-sign one or two of the free agents.

With Vilen and Nemec already signed the thought of Luke Hughes playing the Double Hamilton role for Utica with those two and some other AHL veterans could prepare the franchise for well into the future.

Will be interesting to see if either Zaitsev or Misyul -or possibly Gritsyuk up front - is signed to make the transition easier.

I would bet money that Luke Hughes does not spend any long period of time in Utica. Ever.

the lack of respect to nikita okhotyuk.

We'll see if Okhotiuk is in the mix for an NHL spot next year (or possibly trade bait). Since he's a late '00, he may not be waiver exempt next season (ditto Foote). So it might not be a given that he gets sent to the AHL, or at least we'd risk somebody claiming him. His junior coach is with the Coyotes now and they might need some cheap LD depth if Chychrun/Gostisbehere aren't there next season.

Curious how much room Fitz is gonna give all these young defensemen next season. Personally i’d let Severson and Graves walk and let Muk, Hughes and Nemec fight it out for roster spots, along with Bahl and Okhotyuk. But i know that’s not a safe option which means it’s DEFINITELY not an NHL GM option. But regardless, i think there’s a good chance Mukhamadullin is the most NHL ready of all of them.

Mukhamadullin admits in his interview that the AHL was a speed adjustment. I expect the NHL would be even more of an adjustment. He will probably need to acclimate before having a real chance at NHL success.

Team should be going for a Cup so I would resign Graves if he takes a short-term deal that ends before Luke and Nemec need their raises. Nothing wrong with letting Mukh marinate a bit. I would use some of our young players as trade chips though, particularly whichever of Okhotyuk or Bahl you think there is no room for.

Personally, I'd also wait to sign Luke Hughes until the summer unless we get an injury but they probably don't want to sour that relationship as he was likely promised to burn off an ELC year.

yeah but that’s certainly gonna be true of Luke Hughes, and Nemec as well even though he’s been through an NHL preseason.

Muk’s had the most pro experience and he’s 6’4” and 200 pounds. He got some AHL time and saw what he needs to work on. If he’s publicly announcing he’s making the jump next year, i think he and the Devils are both pretty confident.

yeah i’d personally not be too interested in rushing Luke Hughes straight to Newark, but we’ll have to wait and see.

He only has to be better then Braden Schneider for me to be happy. Doesn't look to hard for Muk to do.
Braden Schneider Stats and News
I really need to see Muhk in a Utica Comets jersey and not for some playoff stint like last year. Schneider actually seems like a good pick and is at 21 years old is practically an NHL regular for the Rangers. Muhk is going to have alot of competition to make it to the NHL level with Hughes , Siegenthaler , Bahl , Ohoktyuk etc. I actually think Muhk would be a big trade chip if we try to get Meier from the Sharks. I wonder if Muhk and our 1st would be enough. I don't want to trade him but we have a good Defense at the moment with a good amount of prsopects in the system. He might be expandable.

Sharks fans seem a bit cool on Holtz and though their first need is centers, of which we basically have none, they are in desperate need of D prospects too. I think Shak could be a big part of a Meier package.

Not that he would play his off side on an nhl club but he's a leftie who plays the right side. I think you are right about Cs and Ds for SJ. If Muk, a 1st and 1 more piece (young C- not Shara i hope) can happen we should be happy.

I can see San Jose pounding the table for Casey if the Devils make Hughes/Nemec off limits. The Devils obviously want no part of moving Casey, but are you theoretically willing to lose the Meier sweepstakes if it means keeping Casey?

depends what else is in the package, but I have no problems moving Casey and our 1st if thats the base of the package. Not that I am down on him, but with our top 3 guys signed forever and Luke/Nemec coming, there isnt a lot of room
