We have an entire squad of D as legitimate prospects. I don't even know what to do with this information.

Good news for Devils fans

Shakir said he will compete for spot in Devils roster next season

Great to hear! Figured that would be the case, but good to know for sure. Would also assume he comes over to NA again this season once his KHL season is over. Hopefully the Comets at least make the playoffs, though I could also see Muk practicing with the Devils and being with them during the playoffs.

And if he doesn't make the big club? Would he stay in the AHL or go back to Russia?

The obvious issue here is the number of young d-men looking to break into the lineup. But we need to break them in eventually, and if they are good enough, the concern is not as much as one might expect.

Sorry for my bad english

"I will end this year as Salavat player and when it ends, I will travel to NA. It`s done. I will fight for NHL roster spot, if it needs to play in AHL or play NHL role from the beggining - doesn`t matter, I`m ready for everything."

Love his attitude.

I know many fans are worried about possibly breaking in two rookies on defense next year between Hughes, Nemec or Muk if Graves and Severson walk...but personally, I'm not concerned. Might be a slight step back in the regular season, but we should hopefully still have a team that can be among the top in the league and cruise to a playoff berth even with two rookie D (not to mention possibly Thompson and/or Foote up front). By the time the playoffs roll around, whichever rookies make the roster have a good amount of NHL experience and I'm not too worried about them being rookies at that point.

I’m skeptical Nemec is ready but you could easily have Luke Mukh and Bahl and OK competing for three spots on the team.

I'm skeptical as well. Just saying that it wouldn't be the worse thing if Graves and Severson both walked this offseason. Guess it also depends on how Bahl does this season and if he looks legit for a top 6 spot next year.

I'd be fine with resigning Graves even to a 3-4 year deal as long as there no (or limited) trade protection as there should be an opportunity for the likes of Muk to grab a spot on the team once he's ready.
