What would it take for Minnesota to acquire Zeev's brother? Not really sure of Detroit's needs.
Our RD group is pretty barren at the moment. Center prospect group has guys like Kumuplainen/Bankier/Haight in it. Any of those guys of interest? An equal RD or C prospect?
Minnesota has a need for big defensemen with some skill. It's not solely based on him being Zeev's brother. Why do people always want to unite brothers on the same team? Where has it worked long-term anywhere besides the Sedins in Vancouver?
For young players being more comfortable in an organization. Extra motivation it causes players. Maybe to incentivize signing a player who may want to sign elsewhere because they don’t have any ties to a team that just selects a player in the draft. If they have family in the organization it makes it easier for that player. Why do people always want to unite brothers on the same team? I hear there were two brothers in Montreal that won a few Cups together. Why do people always want to unite brothers on the same team? Where has it worked long-term anywhere besides the Sedins in Vancouver?
Niedermayer brothers maybe? Why do people always want to unite brothers on the same team? Where has it worked long-term anywhere besides the Sedins in Vancouver?

Look how far back you had to go.

I always say if this board had existed while 6 Sutter brothers were playing in the NHL, the internet would have broken with the threads trying to get them all on the same team. Why do people always want to unite brothers on the same team? Mahovlich's and Richard's in Montreal did ok. 29 Cups between them. Why do people always want to unite brothers on the same team? Where has it worked long-term anywhere besides the Sedins in Vancouver?

Wouldn't be equal, Minnesota would have to pay a premium as Detroit is familiar with Shai, has no reason to trade him, and trading him for an "equal" prospect carries risk.An equal RD or C prospect?
Shai is I much better prospect than you give him credit for. He projects to be a 2nd pair guy who is big (6'3", 220 lb), fast, pretty good with the puck, and can defend. I doubt Detroit is interested in moving him. He doesn't have his brothers offensive upside, but will probably be the better defender.Mahovlich's and Richard's in Montreal did ok. 29 Cups between them.
As far as the elder brother, if his last name wasn't Buium, would MN be even interested? Having family members on the same team can be problematic, because usually one is more talented than the other. If Shai is stuck in Iowa, and isn't playing with Zeev, do you risk alienating the family? If Shai(who appears likely to be a fringe NHL'er) makes the NHL team, is there grumbling on the team that he gets preferential treatment because of his brother?
You want to take the Sedin's out of the argument for some reason, and then you complain about recency when other examples are provided?Look how far back you had to go.
They're not going to consider it, because Detroit likes Shai and has no reason to trade him and Minnesota has no reason to want him outside of some weird brother fetish, because he's a fraction of the prospect his brother is.You want to take the Sedin's out of the argument for some reason, and then you complain about recency when other examples are provided?
The fact is that other brothers have been successful playing together in the NHL. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Saku Koivu chose to not sign in Minnesota because he didn't want the family dynamic to mess with the hockey dynamic, but the Niedermayer's won a Cup together around the same time.
Different sets of brothers have different feelings on it. I would hope the Wild and Red Wings would consider that before making such a trade.
Wrong, as stated in post #4. Minnesota needs big defenders with some level of skill. Our group is freaking tiny. They're not going to consider it, because Detroit likes Shai and has no reason to trade him and Minnesota has no reason to want him outside of some weird brother fetish, because he's a fraction of the prospect his brother is.
Asking for Minnesota’s top prospect for Shai is pretty unreasonable.Honestly, Yurov is the only guy that really interests me.
But that's probably a no-go.

Eric and Jordan Staal in Carolina, though Mark and Eric in Florida is also on the list of "didn't works".
