Our RD group is pretty barren at the moment. Center prospect group has guys like Kumuplainen/Bankier/Haight in it. Any of those guys of interest?

Minnesota has a need for big defensemen with some skill. It's not solely based on him being Zeev's brother.

For young players being more comfortable in an organization. Extra motivation it causes players. Maybe to incentivize signing a player who may want to sign elsewhere because they don’t have any ties to a team that just selects a player in the draft. If they have family in the organization it makes it easier for that player.

Mahovlich's and Richard's in Montreal did ok. 29 Cups between them.

As far as the elder brother, if his last name wasn't Buium, would MN be even interested? Having family members on the same team can be problematic, because usually one is more talented than the other. If Shai is stuck in Iowa, and isn't playing with Zeev, do you risk alienating the family? If Shai(who appears likely to be a fringe NHL'er) makes the NHL team, is there grumbling on the team that he gets preferential treatment because of his brother?

The Sedins, Richards, Mahovlichs were a different because they were all terrific hockey players, so those issues didn't come up.

Wouldn't be equal, Minnesota would have to pay a premium as Detroit is familiar with Shai, has no reason to trade him, and trading him for an "equal" prospect carries risk.

Shai is I much better prospect than you give him credit for. He projects to be a 2nd pair guy who is big (6'3", 220 lb), fast, pretty good with the puck, and can defend. I doubt Detroit is interested in moving him. He doesn't have his brothers offensive upside, but will probably be the better defender.

They're not going to consider it, because Detroit likes Shai and has no reason to trade him and Minnesota has no reason to want him outside of some weird brother fetish, because he's a fraction of the prospect his brother is.
