Sterling was the best England player this game so far just because he ran with the friggin ball. I think that shouldl've been a clear indication that Sancho needed to be the one they brought on but instead they brought Fodden on for some reason.

They are afraid to overturn anything. USELESS

Same reason as why you had a cocaine dealer give Totti a red card for diving in 02. Football is corrupt as hell when the home team is still in the tournament.

There was the slightest brush of contact and VAR, especially in this tournament, has set the "clear and obvious" bar at an absurd level so they were never going to overturn it as long as there was *any* contact.
What a waste of VAR if it's going to be held to that standard. If we're using it to ensure people don't have a hair offside, not sure why it's not used in this situation properly.

Correct. They have clearly overcompensated.

For me it is just funny how many ways they can get VAR wrong.

They just showed a proper angle, there's definitely contact on the thigh absolutely. It's still a soft pen, but there absolutely is contact
Contact is not enough. How is a defender supposed to defend without contact?

Watch it over and over. Zero touch on Sterling. He literally dove forward, sold the ref and var isn’t enough to call it back.
No idea how this bullshit persists in modern football with the refs fully aware of what they are trying to do and the technology to review it. There is clearly no will/desire to purge it.

Theoretically they want the bar to be "clear and obvious" so the ref isn't heading over to the monitor 10 times a game....but instead VAR spends 2 minutes checking if it's clear and obvious instead of spending that 2 minutes just letting the ref have a quick second look.

The more I watch the highlight the more I think it is soft. Got to have the ref at least go look at the monitor you would think.
