Year 1: they played 3 goalies, Murray(the back up) played most games, fleury 2, zatkoff 2.

(Who the f*** is Zatkoff by the way)

Year 2: fleury 15 games, Murray 11 games.

Next year Fleury plays most games and Murray back to being a back up.

And you want to say they knew they had a Lock in net going into those cup runs? Obviously goaltending went a miss with that kind of usage. They adjusted around it and found a way to win.

Yeah, but remember Edmonton MGMT is do or die on the Skinner bandwagon.

Had so many occasions to jump to the hot goalie but whenever it happened. they ignored the solution that was in theirs face.

Kosko outplayed smith in the playoffs but hey gotta go back to the reference picture.
Campbell and Pick outplayed Skinner but who cares.

Somebody somewhere in this org really believe in him getting elite at some point and is so focused on the what if, that they forget to look at what happening every day on the ice.

Oh but what goalie are available?
What about cap space?

Damn it's been 3 years of that shit. And it's not getting better. Sometimes you gotta rip the bandaid to get a good look at what rotten.

Friendly reminder that we got Skinner every chance in the world to prove he could. We pushed goalie outside of the organization to let him breathe. Hell, we demoted Campbell at a time where stu was by far the worst of the 2 goalie.

Wake the fup

No you’re thinking of one team. Vegas. Nobody else has done this.

2024: Florida - Bobrovsky - signed as UFA in 2019
2022: Colorado - Kuemper - Traded to COL in offseason.
2021: Tampa - Vasilveskiy - Drafted and developed
2020: same as above
2019: St. Louis - Binnington - Drafted and developed
2018: Washington - Holtby - Drafted and developed
2017: Pittsburgh - Murray - Drafted and developed
2016: same as above
2015: Chicago - Crawford - Drafted and developed
2014: Los Angeles - Quick - Drafted and developed

Do you see a pattern? I am absolutely EXHAUSTED by people on here that create their own realities that suit their opinions.

What exactly is your point here? I don't think the distribution is between traded for and drafted and developed - it's between started the year penciled in as starter and not. You're also cherry picking pretty hard;

Bob wasn't the starter to start the year.

You're missing Vegas.

Colorado acquired Keumper at the deadline.

Binnington started the year in AHL.

Holtby was pushed exceptionally hard by Grubauer in the regular season, who was acquired to be 1A/1B with Holtby because they didn't trust their young guy with the reigns. Huh. Grubauer actually outplayed Holtby but got injured.

Murray was Fluery's backup, but they recognized Flower wasn't getting it done in Big games. Huh.

So... We have 8 where they tinkered until they find a better fit, and 4 where the guy penciled in at starter at the start of the year was the starter for the cup? Maybe 7-5 or 6-6 depending how you look at Murray/Fluery and Grubauer/Holtby

But again - we didn't go out and get lankinen in the off-season. No, we were confident in Skinner.

Apparently a goal let in from behind the red line is ok. Perfect shot. He did the same against VAN in the playoffs lol. Above him and through his 5 hole from close to the red line

Nevermind just standing up and hugging that post so it is IMPOSSIBLE to score from there. Like literally impossible.

Hey man, sometimes a superior sniper like uhh... Zadarov is just going to beat you, no matter where they shoot it from.

I still can't believe we lost that fking game after being up 4-2 ffs Having Florida take the lead and even tieing the game again only to have skinner completely flop

Skinner will never change rinse and repeat. Strings along 3 or 4 fantastic games then falls into a black hoke. We will not go any were with Skinner in net

And for what its worth the flames just shut out the cats on Saturday night..... actually the cats were shut out on B2B games, well they only scored 2 goals in there previous 4. The fking sharks hel them to 1 fking goal people. The fking sharks , but leave it up to the Oilers to set them straight again

Like I wrote last week. after Stu was on his mini heater…show me some longer term (heck, even medium term, just not short spurts of dominance) consistency and I will consider coming over to his side. I think I’ve been fooled one too many times.

And Still Waiting.

Just not convinced he can ever be a big game, make a big timely save, rally the team type goalie. If you want solid “meh” though, he’s your guy. Problem is, Meh typically doesnt win SCFinals though. The few meh goalies who have, also went supernova in the play offs to do it.

Maybe the Oilers have analytics that show grit isn't necessary; tough sell after losing to the Panthers.

We are playing good right now. Analytics are golden but the roster is ugly and being carried by the two best players in the world. We are not one or two players away, we need several players to get back to last year.

There is no heaviness, the d is still too small, and the goaltending is below average. Going all-in on this roster when we have no assets will be suicide imo.
What’s with the negative view point? We’ve been playing fantastic hockey.

If we win this last game people are on here are saying we should just be handed the cup tomorrow.

Oilers have been playing great. People need to calm their emotions down

Blah. This was all probably stated last night already, but a few things:

- Bouchard has been terrible. Offensively, he has been a shin pad assassin and makes some pretty bad decisions which was severely unlike him last season. Defensively, he has lost us more games than he has won. This is not helping his eventual AAV (which isn't a bad thing for us)

- Skinner once again, can't make some pretty easy saves - wow, if we had a goalie like Bobrovsky or even Shesterkin, we would be lightyears ahead of the rest of our division.

- Team defense was not great, can't leave Verhaeghe open like that in the slot (Skinner should be able to make a f***in save or two once in a while)

- Officiating... I am still sticking to my Collin Campbell theory - the stripes put away the whistles for this club more than many others it feels when the game is on the line. High hit on J Skinner, high sticking on S Skinner, multiple clutch and grab interferences on McDavid, unsportsmanlike BS on Nurse (??? are you f***ing serious ???), missed clear two-handed chop on Nuges stick at the end, and finally, the CLEARLY kicked in goal by Tkachuk (in no world did he just turn his skate, he f***ing kicked that puck in)

Anyways. On to the next one. Maybe these Amazon game night's just aren't the Oilers thing.

Skinners a slave to the RVH in any and all circumstances thanks to that dunce Schwartz. I’m surprised Skinner doesn’t drop into the RVH on breakaways FFS. Last night he also had no rebound control and pucks were bouncing off him like he was made out of pure Indian rubber.

Between him and Bouchard stumbling around like a drunk at the staff Christmas party last night, they both clearly showed why they were left off of Team Canada and rightly so.

No. Im pretty sure he said Stu didn’t make the saves he needed to make. He gave up the winning goal on a non-dangerous chance. It would have been easier to accept had he given up the winner in a goal he had no chance of making a save- not a long distance wrist shot on a 2 on 2
and the 2 best players in the world didn't do their jobs either

Yeah, you aren't going to beat a team like Florida when your defence and goaltending plays that bad. I guess we were due for a loss anyway.

Just remember that was our first bad game in quite a while. The world isn’t ending.

I said after the Vegas game, where we played very loose throughout the game, that this is how you play at the end of a winning streak. You almost always have a game where you play bad defence and don't have attention to detail at the end of a winning streak, right before you lose the next game. The inverse is true at the end of losing streaks it seems, where you are playing well, but not getting the win still.

We were due for this loss for certain. Sucks, but at least it was against an eastern team.

Exact type of loss I was afraid of. They got in their heads again and beat themselves. Yeah refs kept the game within reach for the Panthers (and you could tell it was affecting the boys because we saw the same song and dance in the playoffs), but that 3rd period defending the lead was atrocious. Abysmal game from all the defensemen, and especially the top pairing. The f*** you guys doing on the breakout just taking your sweet time with D-to-D passes over and over when you know exactly what they're going to bring with the forecheck. You solved this already, quick up stretch and neutral zone chips. Just not enough urgency back there tonight. And per usual with Skinner, inconsistent choke job when the pressure got too high. Team gave him the lead, and you just knew after that 3rd goal riding down his head and back like a god damn plinko chip with no reaction, lead was never safe. It was so important to be up by 2 at the end of the 2nd, and this guy disengaged after we went up 4-2 and sulked the rest of the game basically.

I feel we needed this one to keep going on a real roll and create some separation from the rest division, but nothing comes drama free with this club no matter how well things are going. This is a big loss. Certain games give the season a personality/story that may carry over, and this one has the risk of doing that. Frustrating. It's a veteran group, one can hope they don't let this one linger, but I think it will.
