Yep exactly.

As I keep saying if we wanted to make a goaltending move it was 2021. Smith was out of contract. Kosko had a year left.

Ullmark was available. Kuemper was available. One has won a cup and the other a Vezina since then.
Campbell is what we chose. Even though he has mental issues at a minimum, a possible substance issue, and he’s not even good. $5Mx5 into that sieve. And the ONLY reason the McD era didn’t tank is cause our 4th round pick goalie ended up being good enough.

There's like 50 guys ahead of Skinner in GSAA, many of them playing behind far worse defensive structures, lol. How hard is it to get even ONE of them as an insurance 1B option at least?

This team just doesn't want to hear that their goaltending is bad because they've already drank the kool-aid on the "wouldn't it be cool to win a Cup with a dude who's from Edmonton and has a funny mustache!". They're all in on the fantasy at this point.

They won't break from it, though I bet they are f***ing sour as shit about tonight's loss upstairs, lol.

The answer is not 50 guys.

You’re looking for a starting goalie. Getting Talbot or some other meh goalie is you’re getting basically a marginally better Pickard to compete with Skinner.

At that point we’re probably not improving anything because it just means we have two Pickards instead of one taking up cap room.

If you want a starting goalie you gotta go get one.

So you expected a 1-0 win with 2 of the best players in the world being held pointless?
No. Im pretty sure he said Stu didn’t make the saves he needed to make. He gave up the winning goal on a non-dangerous chance. It would have been easier to accept had he given up the winner in a goal he had no chance of making a save- not a long distance wrist shot on a 2 on 2

So basically the Oilers front office operates on this motto:

They tried once, failed, and will never try again. That's a great sales pitch when trying to convince McDavid to stay for another 8 years by the way.

High stick to Skinner's head... no penalty called because why not allow high sticks now.

Goal clearly kicked in... of course that's allowed because it's a Sunshine State team.

Double minor to Nurse for... reasons... leads to PP goal.

Refs tried very hard to give the edge to Florida and in the end they did just enough to gift them the win.

Both teams played like shit... edge was given to the Panthers by the refs and they were gifted the 2 pts.

Congrats Gary... your biased, crooked league is fooling no one.
A mirror of the 7 games series in a microcosm tonight. We got f***ed up the ass and out of a cup , and no one wants to talk about it cause we’d rather shit on our average goalie for being average.

Skinner is elite. I will die on this hill. Hopefully I'm not eating crow at the end of the season but until then, he's a great goalie on an excellent contract.
Even though his numbers show he is horrendous and has the worst numbers of any starter and plays on an elite defensive team

"Marginally better Pickard" probably wins us the 2024 Cup.

Pickard has had better numbers than Skinner for 2 years now. He may well be better than Skinner himself.

6 goalies in 6 years = try
New goalie scout hire = try
2 new goalie consultants/advisors working with Stu = try

I’m sorry. But they are trying. That’s just a fact.

Maybe you can't win a Cup with average goaltending. I mean I realize that might be mind blowing to some people.

The only reason they got that far is because they have the best player since Lemieux.

Colin Campbell loves when we eat our own instead of focusing on his BS. Huge win for Campbell tonight. Another one huge W after he f***ed us out of a Cup.
I just don’t get it.

As a ref, why are you teeing a guy up in the first? Nothing has happened yet. It just reeks of this guy again bringing shit from outside the game into it.

Why is he so close to Nurse after he assesses the penalty? You are taught to stay clear when making a call for that very reason.

What’s even more irritating is that as a ref he has so many more different options than that to de-escalate the situation. Why doesn’t he give him 10? Doesn’t punish the team if he’s feel that aggrieved.

Play him in all the tough games and give Skinner the non playoff teams. Easy way to test that theory.

The organization has that option at their finger tips. I wonder why they don’t use it.

They're not, even posters here admit it "they're not going to change Skinner so just focus on the D upgrade", lol. The stooges in the media that get their marching orders from the front office also parrot that same thinking.

They're not going to try anything with the goaltending, not unless Skinner completely embarrasses them and even then they will stick with him like a wife that sticks with a husband that routinely beats her for probably a while.

Skinner has an insane amount of rope here.

Because STOOOOEY is the golden child. Pickard is the defacto back up. They decided this a year ago.

Besides doing that would embarrass the front office, some AHL cast off better than the golden child Edmonton boy?

Can't have that.

Pickard absolutely deserves more starts.

Organizationally, the only philosophy that can really change is that they draft a goalie high. And then they stilll have to have the luck that a goalie is even available in the year they have a pick to risk on that goalie. I guess if you want that to change sure.

But if you think this organization hasn’t been cycling goalies over and over whether by trade or free agency to find a guy, i think you should review our history of goaltending, and see how many bullets we’ve tried and failed and sometimes succeeded with.
Honestly, what a cop out straw man. No. The only way to make organizational changes is not taking a blind stab in the dark at a high draft pick.

How about making some changes to the goaltending department. Or even developing one since it’s usually just an afterthought. Fire the goaltending coach that hasn’t worked out in a decade. Look for a new guy. Maybe, just maybe, even look outside Edmonton this time. Hire a dedicated goaltending scout. Have some sort of organizational game plan on how many goaltenders to draft and when it may be important to do so. And yes, be okay with using draft picks on them sometimes.

I’m so sick of the goaltending on this team being an afterthought. Something has to change.

I agree and Look at the original penalty too. Like did the ref think Nurse stuck out his foot backwards to perfectly time a trip? The dude jumped into the heel of Nurses skate as Nurse was skating ad making that defensive play naturally.

Maybe it’s a penalty. But should expect some anger and/or confusion in that situation. But the dude goes full ego, and makes an example of Nurse like the game was getting out of control.

Pick a lane.

Pickard has better numbers than Skinner for two years running now.

If we had "better than Pickard" for any one of game 1, 2, or 3 of the Finals, yeah maybe we do eek out a 2024 Cup by the skin of our teeth and by McDavid's sheer will.

It's not what I'd recommend doing though, frankly it's a stupid risk to take.

So we are just going to assume he says the opposite of what he means? He did say in those series and Dallas series lots of praise for Stu too you know.

I wouldn’t make that assumption.

Nobody ever throws the goalies under the bus to the media. Very bad idea

They have the worst group of goaltenders for any superstar players run, I think Lindros had better even in Philly.

If that's "trying", then that's pathetic.

Crosby, Ovechkin etc. would have 0 Cups with Skinner. ZE-RO. What McDavid is asked to do is above and beyond those guys.

From a philosophical standpoint that is the only change they can do when it comes to ACQUIRING a goalie. Outside of that, they’ve already been trying the trading/signings route.

So the thing is. They have hired a new goaltending scout. And they have gotten 2 goalie coaches OUTSIDE edmonton. One that focuses on mental preparedness. And one that focuses on movement and technique.

So everything you are complaining about has been done. Now we need to await the results.

One thing I didn’t know about was a new goalie scout hire. That’s at least promising.
