K who? And then maybe he wins us this one and loses us the Vegas game. And maybe we can’t afford the 2 goals from Kap and Brown cause we chose a pricier goalie.

I would still keep your boy, but he needs a real 1B to challenge him and the coach needs to play him. Send Pickard down to the AHL (they need help, Chaulk-outline's elite D first game isn't doing much for them).

Skinner needs to start less games. He's not a true #1 and doubtful he will be at this point. Of all of the "brilliant" things JJ did, not grabbing a real tandem goalie was idiotic

How many freebies did the Panthers get?

Bouch stumbling and bumbling for the shorty.

Mikkola’s point shot ping ponged in.

J Skinner got hit by the bench and they all stopped playing for some reason.

Reinhart’s shot behind the goal line off Skinner’s head.

Verhaege left wide open in the slot, the GWG.

5 baffling GAs.. One of their worst game in a while. They were playing with some nerves. You could tell.
If a regular season game has their nerves that bad that is not a good sign. Good teams have poise

Islands in the stream.
Those in attendance, did ANY player go back to Stu Skinner and pat him after this one. They didn't show it, I did see a bunch of players going straight down the tunnel.

I'd mentioned that the Panthers broadcast they were snickering at how back Skinner was. Shoot high, why not. One of the commentators couldn't stop laughing and snickering on air, they went to commercial then or would have had more to say.

What people aren't mentioning much is that it wasn't just a SC hangover to start the season its "we have another year of trying to roll Skinner up the biggest hill" A daunting task if ever there was one.

Oilers are a pretty good team. We still need a goalie at TDL. That need continues.

It's funny that you go back to the Knights game when the Knights had 22 HDSC.

Skinner was dying to lose that game for us, if Jeff Skinner doesn't score to break Vegas' run, they probably would've made it a 1 goal game in short order and at 5-4 who even knows what happens.

Skinner is a fraud and for people who can't see it still, enjoy nights like this. This is what you get.

He can play well for a stretch but when things get going too good or the pressure gets up a notch, he will expose himself for what he is.

How was he dying to lose that game when the Knights were so much better than the Oilers by virtually every metric?

'Genius' Jeff Jackson left that obvious job for Bowman. It would have been easier to fill with a league minimum signing in the offseason

Sorry but the game was horrible. from a purist POV both teams played games their coaches would be screaming at, or should, and both goalies were complete garbage. If I had attended this game I'd want my money back. If I paid Prime a quarter to watch this I would want money back. This was a game that was full of terrible miscues by both clubs and really from whole teams. With Skinner being the worst of any of the players on ice.

Miscues lead to entertaining hockey though with lots of scoring chances. This was not a game for structure purists

And you think those guys will give us the consistency you want?

No one's asking for freaking Hasek. We get 1 good game of goaltending in the first 3 games of the Cup Finals, and guess what? You're probably wearing a 2024 Stanley Cup champions shirt with an Oilers logo on it right now.

But hey, hope going cheap in net was worth it. A 2024 Western Conference champions banner and hat is almost as nice, amirite?

Wow. The Stuart Skinner haters are out in full force tonight my goodness. He had one bad game out of 11 games and, now, he is awful.

This fanbase is disgustingly biased.

Bouchard and Ekholm were pretty much -6 tonight but thats just on Skinner?
He’s posted below a 850 in 5 of his last 12 games played.

Did he play alight in last 6? Sure let’s give him credit but the team was rolling and gave up nothing. Any time he’s needed he shits the bed, he’s got 3 one goal wins all year.

Ok. Every goalie is better than Skinner. And any goalie would be the solution to our woes.

If that’s the argument, I’ll disagree and move on.
There are 32 goalies in the league who have played 15 games.

Skinner is 27th in GSAA/60, 26th in sv% and 24th in high danger save %

This while facing the least high danger chances/60 of any goalie on the list.

Is every goalie better than Skinner? No... Are the vast majority? Overwhelmingly yes.

Letting in another freebie goal to Hanifin and then gifting the Knights a total freebie behind the net.

You could see Skinner's ass starting to show in that game towards the end, and sure enough he just couldn't resist imploding totally the following game.

I’m not one to shit on Skinner all the time. But tonight turned me.

Sure he has had a few great games lately, so had Pickard. Both play really well when the Oilers play their structured game to a tee. When the emotions amp up though and the D make some blunders, that’s when a goalie can calm the game down by bailing out their team.

Skinner plays well when the Oilers play well. He rarely, if ever, bails his team out.

I’m ok holding onto him because I do think he is a decent goalie, but we need a goalie that has the confidence to steal a game, not the type of guy that completely melts under pressure.

Couldn’t have been anything to do with Reinhart making an unbelievable play. Happens all the time. Players looking up and shooting off a goalies head from behind the net. Such an obvious play.

For all the hockey you’ve watched, how many times have you seen that shot? Should be a lot of the goalie should plan for it. Right?
Only the Leagues elite of elite shooters can even think of pulling off that shot. Drais done it before. McD even. None of them as perfectly banked as the one we saw tonight. I don’t think there’s a goalie in the league that expects a shot like that and practices for it. Usually see goalies just give up that tiny hole and hopes the shooter blows it.

Exactly. If his name bar is against the cross bar that doesn't go in. That's probably on Schwartz as well.

Kevin Woodley, who is on Gregory's show regularly, says that style of goaltending when the puck is below the line is flawed and drives him nuts.

His name bar was literally touching the cross bar.

The third goal was a shit one. The others weren't. Maybe the Oilers shouldn't stop playing. They gave up 41 shots in that game. It wasn't a defensive gem by any stretch of the imagination.

The fact that some people here still don't understand this and need their hand held and have it explained to them is amazing.
