I feel like the shadow MDR figures have to be robots or clones of some kind. I think there's a fair bit of smoke behind the cloning theories (e.g. Lumon is trying to crack programming consciousness to download a construct of Kier's consciousness into a clone so he can live forever) and the "twins" are so bizarre looking and move so unnaturally it wouldn't surprise me if they're actually early "prototype" clones. Like they're clones in body/appearance but lack real consciousness and/or true human functioning.
Another thing that a theory video I watched pointed out is that there's a pretty large section of Petey's Lumon HQ map that is called "team building" (bottom right of the map) that we ostensibly haven't seen before (also different from the perpetuity wing). I think it's more likely that they actually were in some fictional national park but it would be pretty crazy if it was actually a realistic simulation still on the severed floor. I just don't know how much I actually buy it because it seemed like Irv put Helena in very real danger. But then again, it could explain why Irv didn't actually freeze to death or seem to get sick from sleeping out in the cold. If it was an elaborate simulation, that would seriously ramp up the heights of what Lumon's technological capabilities can achieve. At least human cloning is probably possible in the real world given that animals have been cloned.
Another theory I saw was a bit more out there. General theory is that Dieter Eagen was likely a cast off of the Eagan lineage and that he stood in opposition to Kier's ideals and vision and that a separate Eagan bloodline could be an opposition force to Lumon. The theorist speculated that Mark might be a descendant of that bloodline because Dieter had an affinity for the woods, his mother's name is Fern, and Scout(s) are associated with the woods. I think that's a pretty big reach. But I like the idea that maybe the mysterious organization that opposes Lumon that Rehgabi alluded to could be a rival line of the Eagan family that seeks to undermine and stop Lumon and their Severance practice. It's entirely likely that Kier, assuming he had a falling out with his twin, would've written a super disparaging story about Dieter and painted him out to be diamertically opposed to his philosophies and values. I mean this shadow entity Rehgabi and likely outie Burt are with, are the element of the show that's been the least revealed. Could be that Dieter died, but the whole gruesome death part of the story could just as easily be Dieter dying in Kier's eyes over fundamental differences. Could be totally off base but would be cool if true.
I agree that Irv isn't done. I'd pretty much guarantee it without looking at the IMDB episode count or the trailer shots yall were talking about. Not sure if Irving's innie comes back to MDR but I find it hard to believe that he'd be killed off from this group so early. Maybe at some point Mark will refuse to finish Cold Harbor unless they bring Irving back and let Helly keep coming down to the severed floor. But there's too much around Irving's paintings of the Exports hall and outie Burt watching him. There's no way Irv's story is remotely done. In fact, if his paint visions as an innie and his dream were a sign of reintegration, it wouldn't surprise me if outie Mark And Irv meet/team up this season.
If Mark actually got Helena pregnant, that would be ten levels of insane that I didn't even contemplate. I thought the idea that there'd be a juggling between innie Mark's feelings for Helly while outie Mark is dead set on finding Gemma, while Helly was likely actually Helena was insane enough on its own, add in a pregnancy and Mark never really being able to know for sure if he's talking to Helly or Helena, there's a lot of room for what could be the most batshit insane love triangle ever written. I mean Helly presumably still doesn't even know about the Gemma/Ms. Casey connection.
Also huge props to Britt Lower for that scene with Irving with the facial expression change from trying to look caring and concerned to "all right f***er, whatever" was just so well done. And obviously John Turturro killed it from start to finish.
Other questions: why did it take so long for Mark to have a reintegration flash? How long does it take to set in until both consciousnesses are fully unified?
How is Dylan going to react now that Milchik offed Irving? He was so comfortably manipulated by Lumon before.
How much are they going to let Helly down there? Are they going to record Helly getting caught up to speed and just have Helena put on a different performance?
What the f*** is gonna happen with Milchek? I mean I figured he wasn't going to turn coat just from the blackface Kier paintings but you'd think there'd be some shaking of his faith and devotion to Lumon. Yet he was just as resolute and shitty as ever this episode.
Seriously, what's the deal with Ms. Huang? Is she a newer generation Lumon clone? Even the show is asking the questions.
What kind of damage control can Lumon even do now? MDR is now plainly aware that Helena was a mole and that Ms. Casey is/was Mark's outie's wife. And they "killed" Irving B. So the entire facade of the "Lumon is listening and working to be better" thing will be seen as bogus by MDR. The only way to get them to comply and work, as far as I can see, is to lock them in the MDR office. One point of suspension of disbelief I've had to date is why an all controlling corporation like Lumon would even allow their severed employees to roam around and seek answers about their existence, the work they do, and how to escape like this. Like at this point, if MDR is still free to roam around, I can really only conclude that Lumon IS listening (and watching) and allowing these things to happen as part of a deeper psychological experiment/study. Maybe cold harbor isn't about the MDR numbers but Mark's quest for truth. Maybe everything from the beginning has been an elaborate manipulation.
This show has me tinfoiling harder than any other I've ever watched lol.
