Value of: Seth Jones to anywhere

stephenson(2031)(6.25)+grubauer(2027)(5.9)=12.15
for
jones(2030)(9.5)+mikheyev (2026)(4.037) = 13.537

Essentially shuffling around bad contracts.

For Blackhawks
Get out of Jones' deal without retention. Pick up a center to put behind bedard. The contract for stephenson is going to age horribly but the annual average is quite a bit lower than jones. Grubauer is the price for getting out of Jones' deal without retention. Can bury him or give him a shot to try and rebuild his value.

For Kraken:
The stephenson deal is not great. Its not in the jones tier but its close. This allows seattle to give Wright a top 6 opportunity while also opening up a spot for Catton for when he is ready. Essentially it moves the bad contract from center to rd where the bad contract can be slightly more justified since there is a need. Mikheyev is there to balance salaries but allows seattle to get cap relief one season sooner.

Everyone feel free to hate it now.
No thanks sir

...who'd the Avs pair him with??...Girard??...not a lot of defensive acumen there, imo...

...eh, I agree he's probably an upgrade on Manson; that guy always looks like he just chases hits around the ice and then gets hurt when he hits someone...

Girard is solid defensively. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with Manson. He's underrated offensively but overrated defensively. Physical yes, but questionable hockey sense and positioning. But on the flip side is a good skater and transition guy.

He's had a tough year. But even the year Colorado won the cup, he only played 3rd pairing minutes in the WCF-SCF (15:51 ATOI during that stretch, which included three overtime games).

That's not relevant. Seth Jones would sprint across the prairies if he could get traded to Colorado. He's dying to get out Chicago, he's made it abundantly clear. He's even from Colorado. Stop bringing up his NMC.
I know he's in the rumors but he has not publicly requested a trade. Those are facts. Look, I'm not here to ruin your fun. I realize this is a forum but if you are going to be sour, why bother responding? Should I be giving a sarcastic response like "Stop denying the NMCs existent."?

You manage to be wrong with amazing consistency. No matter which team you pretend to be an expert of.
Jones at 4.75m per would bring back a very good return.
Chicago would never do it though.

Actually with the big bump in the cap and Chicago having AND ADDING so many entry level deals the prospects of moving him decrease.
They need his cap hit.
He’s pretty good value at $4.75mm. He’ll have some value there. Absolutely none above $7mm per.

Would the Hawks trade Jones with 25% retention to the Stars for Stanges, 26’ 2nd and another mid level prospect (someone like Hemming)? Or is that way too light?

The disconnect between fan knowledge on this board and actual hockey people is surprising. … or it isn’t.

Many reporters have stated that teams are contacting Chicago about his availability, there are ZERO reports of Chicago seeking to dump him at a loss. In fact as calls came in it is reported the team talked to Jones about his desire. (Those of us who follow the team closely know he was sold a promise to contend by Bowman. He thought he was coming to a retool not a full rebuild. Then Bowman was gone and the future changed.
Intelligent fans know that Bowman overpaid Jones but also know that a number around 7.5 would have been proper.
At 7.5 Jones returns good value because he’s worth that. He’s a top pair level RHD.

Chicago has an absolute glut of very highly rated young Dmen already there (Vlasic, Allen, Crevier, Kaiser or a year or 2 away (levshunov, del maestro, Rinzel, Korchinski) addition to several forwards already there (Bedard, Nazar, Dach, slaggert) and more coming over the next 2-3 years (Greene, kantserov, Lardis, Boisvert, Moore and Vanaker.
Over the last 2 seasons Chicago has overpaid veteran place holders. As the ELC’s get added 3 to 5 a year combined with the huge rise in the cap moving jones isn’t a priority for them until there are 6 or 7 better Dmen.
The fact is his cap hit may be needed over the next 2-3 years.
Also his game is not one that would seriously decline into his 30’s.
And 3 years from now when it’s time to move him his wage won’t be out of line.

This just isn’t true. Jones is still a 25+ minute per game RHD with a solid offensive game. With the cap projected to increase significantly over the next 3 seasons his cap hit will no longer be an issue. The bigger question is can the Hawks afford to move that cap hit, they still need to reach the cap floor.

This is an excellent post! Finally someone gets it.
